|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(5/27/14) Padres pitcher Cory Luebke was with the team shagging fly balls in the outfielder Tuesday, as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery.
Luebke is returning from his second Tommy John surgery in February, and is going about his recovery a bit differently, according to MLB.com. He recently began working out his shoulders, and is also putting extra time in on his hips and core with a specialist. He is also looking to change his mechanics, highlighting trouble areas that could lead to injuries.
"There will be some changes," Luebke said. "There's two or three things I was doing that didn't help the elbow, with my hips and my lead leg."
Luebke is out for the remainder of this season, and is aiming for a 2015 return.

Cory Luebke to miss 2014 season, likely needs more surgery
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(2/4/14) Padres pitcher Cory Luebke will miss the 2014 season and is likely to undergo reconstructive surgery on his elbow for the second time, MLB.com reports.
An MRI Friday revealed that Luebke, who underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2012 and hasn't pitched since, has a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.
"I feel bad for him … from 2011 through the first part of 2012, he was certainly on his way," general manager Josh Byrnes said. "This is a real setback. There's been a lot of missed time. Hopefully in a year or so, he can get back to being Cory Luebke. This whole thing has been a mystery."
Luebke faces a long road of rehabilitation to prepare for a potential comeback in 2015 spring training.
|The last time we saw Padres starting pitcher Cory Luebke on a major-league mound he was on his way to being a breakout pitcher in spring 2012. Sadly, Luebke had a major setback, suffering a torn UCL in his left elbow, which required Tommy John surgery. He did not make it back onto a mound last season, as he had a slower than expected recovery from major elbow surgery. And unfortunately, he will not return to action in 2014 as it was revealed in early February he has another tear in his ulnar collateral ligament, which will lead to more surgery on his elbow. It's a tough break for Luebke, who is 9-10 with a 3.30 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 25 career major-league starts. He's also striking out 9.1 batters per nine innings in his career. Luebke was going to be an intriguing injury-risk sleeper Draft Day, but now he can go undrafted in all seasonal formats.
