(5/23/14) The Orioles got a boost from a rare source Thursday, in an 8-7 loss to the Indians in extra innings.
Infielder Ryan Flaherty gave the Orioles a lead in the sixth inning with a three-run home run, his first of the season. He would add one more hit while finishing 2 for 5, but his effort ultimately resulted in a loss.
Flaherty now has one home run in 87 at-bats, and is now hitting just .207/.281/.299 on the season.
|Seven different Orioles' players contribute RBI in win |

(4/21/14) Everyone in the Orioles starting lineup almost ended up with an RBI during a 7-6 win Monday at Boston. The only two players who didn't contribute an RBI were second baseman Stephen Lombardozzi and outfielder David Lough.
The Orioles got most of their runs during a six-run third inning. Nick Markakis, Nelson Cruz, Chris Davis and Jonathan Schoop all had RBI singles. Adam Jones got an RBI on a fielder's choice and Steve Clevenger had an RBI double.
The Orioles' other run came in the eighth inning on Ryan Flaherty's RBI single. The Orioles hit .303 (10 for 33) and had four walks during the win.
|Ryan Flaherty hit .224 with 10 home runs and 11 doubles over 246 at-bats for the Orioles in 2013. And he is penciled in as the starting third baseman for 2014, although that will likely come with an expiration date, as Manny Machado should return from offseason knee surgery by late April. For deep AL-only Roto owners, Flaherty's second base eligibility could make him a viable short-term filler for the season's first few weeks -- and any complications with Machado's return will only add to his value. But once Machado returns, Flaherty loses pretty much all of his value, barring a Jemile Weeks flameout. Flaherty is worth a reserve pick in AL-only Roto leagues.
