by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (3/27/13) Rangers manager Ron Washington named left-handed pitcher Michael Kirkman one of his two primary setup men to begin the year, according to the Dallas Morning News.
"If he stays consistent in his delivery and his stuff is as good as we’ve been seeing, he’s a weapon," Washington told the Morning News.
Kirkman had an outside shot at winning a rotation spot late in camp but will shift to this role after allowing three earned runs in 10 innings this spring.

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (3/27/13) After losing out on the Rangers' fifth starter spot to Nick Tepesch, Michael Kirkman will make the club as a reliever. Manager Ron Washington said the 26-year-old lefty could get some looks in the eighth inning, as a setup man for Joe Nathan. Kirkman had a 3.82 ERA and a 4.31 FIP in 35 1/3 relief innings with the team last season.

| Rangers will fill fifth rotation spot internally |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (3/26/13) The Rangers will fill the fifth spot in their rotation with an internal candidate, according to MLB.com.
The club has been scouting Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang, but a club official said there was “nothing going on there.” Recently released Chris Young is not considered an option for the team.
Michael Kirkman will pitch against the Angels Wednesday, and the team has been considering using him in the rotation.
