| Michael Kirkman works three innings for save |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (4/21/13) Rangers pitcher Michael Kirkman earned his first career save in Sunday's series finale against the Mariners. He came on for starter Justin Grimm in the sixth inning and worked three frames.
The left-hander allowed one run on two hits and also struck out two while walking two. His lone damage came in the form of a Kyle Seager solo homer in the ninth inning.
Kirkman also lowered his ERA from 6.00 to 5.00 in the 11-3 win.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (3/27/13) Rangers manager Ron Washington named left-handed pitcher Michael Kirkman one of his two primary setup men to begin the year, according to the Dallas Morning News.
"If he stays consistent in his delivery and his stuff is as good as we’ve been seeing, he’s a weapon," Washington told the Morning News.
Kirkman had an outside shot at winning a rotation spot late in camp but will shift to this role after allowing three earned runs in 10 innings this spring.

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (3/27/13) After losing out on the Rangers' fifth starter spot to Nick Tepesch, Michael Kirkman will make the club as a reliever. Manager Ron Washington said the 26-year-old lefty could get some looks in the eighth inning, as a setup man for Joe Nathan. Kirkman had a 3.82 ERA and a 4.31 FIP in 35 1/3 relief innings with the team last season.

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (3/26/13) The Rangers will fill the fifth spot in their rotation with an internal candidate, according to MLB.com.
The club has been scouting Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang, but a club official said there was “nothing going on there.” Recently released Chris Young is not considered an option for the team.
Michael Kirkman will pitch against the Angels Wednesday, and the team has been considering using him in the rotation.

Kirkman hasn’t given up a run over nine spring innings, and the team is intrigued by his performance. The Rangers are “seriously considering” moving Kirkman to the major-league starting rotation according to MLB.com.
The 26-year-old tossed 35 1/3 innings out of the Rangers’ bullpen last season. He’s started just 15 games in the minor leagues over the past two years.
