|Tanner Scheppers four weeks away from throwing |
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
(6/26/14) Rangers pitcher Tanner Scheppers has been on the disabled list for two weeks, and will not begin throwing for another four weeks, according to MLB.com.
Scheppers will begin a full throwing program after resting for six weeks, which means he will not pick up a baseball until late July. Scheppers is working his way back from right elbow inflammation, and it is not clear if he will be able to pitch in the majors again this season.

(6/11/14) Rangers right-hander and Opening Day starter Tanner Scheppers has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, but he will be out one heck of a lot longer than 15 days.
General manager Jon Daniels said he expects Scheppers to be sidelined for a significant portion of the summer with an elbow injury that has plagued him for nearly two months.
Scheppers has struggled since his return from his first trip to the DL. He has given up three runs in 4 2/3 relief innings.

(6/3/14) Rangers pitcher Tanner Scheppers, who's trying to work his way back from elbow inflammation, will pitch Tuesday for Double-A Frisco, reports the Dallas Morning News. Scheppers pitched on May 27, May 29 and June 1, getting hit hard the last two times at Triple-A Round Rock.
It's unclear when Scheppers will return to the majors.
|When Derek Holland tripped over his dog late in the offseason, tearing up the cartilage in his knee, it created an opening in the starting rotation that the Rangers are giving seemingly anyone with a pulse a chance to fill. Tanner Scheppers, who broke through with a 1.88 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in a setup role last year, is one of the many candidates. You wouldn't think the Rangers would want to go down that road again after what happened with Neftali Feliz, but at 6-feet-4, Scheppers is better equipped to handle a heavy workload. He also might be somewhat limited with less than his full arsenal, making him a better fit as a starter than reliever. As hard as he throws, he should average more than 6.9 strikeouts per nine innings. Obviously, a move to the starting rotation would greatly enhance his Fantasy appeal, particularly in Head-to-Head leagues where you could start him at relief pitcher, but keep in mind it's a relative long shot. Alexi Ogando and Colby Lewis are both safer bets, especially since Scheppers has already proven to be so valuable in the bullpen. The numbers he projects to put up in a setup role make him worth drafting in AL-only leagues, with the potential to start serving as just a nice bonus.
