David Lough looking for fast start with Orioles this year

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(2/23/15) Outfielder David Lough had a poor first impression on Orioles' fans last year.

Lough suffered a concussion in the spring and was still feeling the effects early in the season. Lough was hitting .159 though 38 games, and the slump took nearly half a season to turn around.

"It was more of a mental thing," Lough told MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli. "It was with me, I kind of felt it a little bit. And with baseball, you've got to have a clear mind a little bit. If it's stuck in your mind, it's just going to be worse."

In the second half of the year, Lough settled down and hit a groove. He hit .337 from June on, but it only lifted his average for the year to .247.

Lough hopes to continue his hot hitting in the new season. "I felt like that was the old me, swing-wise and having my mental approach going up to the plate," he said. "It's just trying to bring that into Spring Training and put those first 100 at-bats from last year aside and have a good spring."

Duquette: Orioles have internal replacements for open OF slot

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12/4/14) Orioles executive vice president for baseball operations Dan Duquette said Thursday that the team has internal options on hand to replace outfielder Nick Markakis, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Markakis is heading to Atlanta, leaving the Orioles with a hole in the outfield, but it appears they're leaning towards plugging that slot internally. Duquette mentioned Alejandro De Aza, David Lough and Steve Pearce as potential options, while Dariel Alvarez and Mike Yastrzemski are minor-leaguers who could also figure into the mix. The Orioles will still be looking for outfield depth on the market, even if the team's starting replacement for Markakis is already in the organization. Duquette also mentioned the bullpen as an area of priority this offseason.

Of the major-league options mentioned, Pearce shined the brightest offensively in 2014, hitting .292/.373/.556 with 21 home runs, 49 RBI and five stolen bases in 338 at-bats in the best season of his career by far. De Aza spent much of the season with the White Sox before coming to Baltimore, and he hit .252/.314/.386 between the two teams with eight home runs, 41 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 477 at-bats. Lough hit .247/.309/.385 with four home runs, 16 RBI and eight stolen bases in 174 at-bats.

David Lough smacks third home run Wednesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/4/14) Orioles outfielder David Lough went 1 for 4 with a solo home run in his team's 6-0 win over the Reds Wednesday.

Lough hasn't seen much playing time in the second half, racking up just 29 at-bats since the All-Star break going into Wednesday's game. However, he did manage to go 3 for 5 in his last start on Aug. 31, and he's now 11 for 33 with one home run and two stolen bases in the second half. He owns a .227/.293/.347 line with three home runs, 11 RBI and seven stolen bases in 150 at-bats on the season.

David Lough swats second home run Saturday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(6/7/14) Orioles outfielder David Lough went 1 for 3 with one walk, one home run, two RBI and two runs scored in his team's 6-3 win over the A's Saturday.

After failing to hit a home run in his first 38 games of the season, Lough has smacked two home runs in his last five contests. He owns a .188/.268/.297 line in 101 at-bats.

David Lough drives in three

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(6/2/14) Orioles outfielder David Lough homered and drove in three runs in Sunday's 9-4 win over the Astros. Lough's two-run shot was his first long ball of the year. He's hitting .176 with six RBI in 91 at-bats.
