| Hector Sanchez dropped to Triple-A |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (5/3/13) The Giants optioned catcher Hector Sanchez to Triple-A Fresno on Friday to clear a spot on the active roster for outfielder Francisco Peguero. In 11 games with San Francisco, Sanchez posted a .150 average while driving in just one run.

| Sanchez-Lincecum battery could stick around |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4/9/13) Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that he would consider keeping Hector Sanchez as Tim Lincecum's personal catcher going forward, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Sanchez started over Buster Posey against the Rockies with Lincecum on the hill.
Bochy said it would be comfortable for both to keep in that way. Sanchez made just his second start on Tuesday as he was behind the plate in Lincecum's first start of the year. He entered Tuesday having gone 1 for 5 to this point without a run scored or RBI.

| Hector Sanchez shrugs off shoulder woes |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (3/29/13) Giants manager Bruce Bochy told the Contra Costa Times that catcher Hector Sanchez caught six innings in a minor league game Friday and appears ready for opening day.
Sanchez was shut down earlier in the spring due to a sore shoulder, but he hit a home run Friday and is not expected to have any trouble playing when the regular season begins.
Sanchez was the backup catcher for the Giants last season and will likely fill the same role this season. He batted .280 in 218 at bats, with three home runs and 34 RBI.

| Hector Sanchez appears ready for opening day |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (3/26/13) Giants manager Bruce Bochy told Comcast SportsNet Bay Area that he remains confident catcher Hector Sanchez will be ready for opening day. Sanchez, who battled a shoulder injury earlier this spring, played in a simulated game Tuesday morning and was able to make clear throws to bases without any pain.

| Hector Sanchez could return next week |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (3/24/13) Giants catcher Hector Sanchez resumed throwing and taking swings from the left side without reporting any shoulder pain, according to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. Manager Bruce Bochy said that Sanchez is expected to play in an exhibition game in two or three days, barring any setbacks.
|
| Going into last season, Hector Sanchez had played just 59 games above Class A, and 13 of those were in the majors, but the Giants entrusted Sanchez as their backup catcher. With Buster Posey getting the occasional start at first base, Sanchez managed to start 48 games last season, and he came through with a .280 batting average, 34 RBI and 15 doubles in 218 at-bats. The 23-year-old had also shown doubles power in the minors, but last season he was helped by a .228 batting average on flyballs in play that was 93 points above the league average. Sanchez probably won't see an increase in playing time this season, and he could very well see a dip in his production, since he is unlikely to get so many flyball hits again. Consider him as filler in NL-only leagues. (Updated 1/8/13) |
