Mariners P Danny Farquhar OK after being hit by liner
|by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer|
|(3/20/15) Mariners pitcher Danny Farquhar is none the worse for wear after being struck with a line drive during a relief appearance Thursday, according to MLB.com.
Farquhar was struck on his non-pitching arm in the eighth inning, but the ball richocheted to the second baseman and the final out of the inning was recorded. Farquhar said he felt no ill effects Friday.
"I'm good. It's my non-important arm. It did leave a nice little tattoo though," said Farquhar, who has a 4.76 ERA in six spring appearances.
Mariners' Danny Farquhar 'a slow starter' in spring training
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(3/11/15) Mariners pitcher Danny Farquhar has earned a reputation as a slow starter in spring training, MLB.com reports. He struggled in his first two outings this spring as well before tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts Tuesday.
"I've come to understand he's a slow starter and he does struggle in the spring," manager Lloyd McClendon said. "I told him the other day he should just go home and help the grounds crew and just stay there until the season starts, because my life would be a lot happier down here."
Farquhar is using the spring to work on his pitches and prepare for a long season.
"If you're trying to make a team or make an impression and you're not even on the 40-man roster, you've got to come out of the gate throwing 95 (mph)," Farquhar said. "You have to really show them you've got something. If not, you just kind of go back into the mix. Whereas I've pitched a year and a half in the big leagues, so Lloyd knows what I can do. So I guess it's a little easier track for me, but I still have to go out there and show Lloyd I can get major-league hitters out. I can't just roll out there and make the team."
Farquhar has surrendered two earned runs in 2 2/3 innings this spring.

Danny Farquhar strikes out two in ninth inning Monday

|(7/22/14) Mariners pitcher Danny Farquhar gave up one unearned run on one hit and struck out two while finishing off his team's 5-2 win over the Mets.
Farquhar was in line to pitch the ninth inning whether a save opportunity was on the line or not, as closer Fernando Rodney was unavailable. Farquhar was unavailable Sunday due to arm tenderness but threw 26 pitches Monday. He owns a 2.68 ERA and 50:14 K:BB ratio in 43 2/3 innings.
Danny Farquhar out Sunday due to arm injury
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(7/20/14) Mariners reliever Danny Farquhar has tenderness in his arm, so he will not be available Sunday against the Angels. Farquhar has seven holds and a 2.35 ERA in his last 23 outings.
|2014 summary: Coming off a successful audition for the role late in 2013, Danny Farquhar was shaping up to be one of the top sleeper closers in 2014 before the Mariners spoiled the fun by signing Fernando Rodney to fill the role in mid-February, but it didn't stop the diminutive right-hander from dominating. His 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings weren't quite as good as the year before, but they still ranked seventh among relief pitchers with at least 70 innings.|
Playing time status: Farquhar may not be the closer, and in a bullpen full of hard-throwing righties such as Yoervis Medina, Dominic Leone and Tom Wilhelmsen, he's not the for-sure backup plan either. But he's the most logical one, and considering Rodney is 37, on the verge of free agency and coming off a second half in which he compiled a 3.90 ERA and 1.60 WHIP, the Mariners may well need a backup plan.
2015 outlook: In other words, you shouldn't give up on Farquhar as a Fantasy sleeper. Granted, he's a much deeper sleeper now than he was last January, but in AL-only Rotisserie leagues, particularly as a handcuff to Rodney, he's absolutely worth drafting.
