|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(8/1/14) Mariners reliever Danny Farquhar feels fine after taking a line drive in the seventh inning of the Thursday win in Cleveland. He told MLB.com that he expects to miss no time after the shot off the bat of Lonnie Chisenhall that knocked him out of the game.

Farquhar blew a 7-5 advantage in the seventh inning, surrendering four runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one in one inning of a 9-7 defeat. He owns a 3.20 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP in 19 2/3 innings of work.
Danny Farquhar collects six-out save Sunday

|(5/4/14) With closer Fernando Rodney getting a day of rest, Mariners reliever Danny Farquhar pitched the final two innings of Sunday's 8-7 win over the Astros, collecting his first save of the season.|
Farquhar worked past a run-scoring single to Jason Castro to cut the lead in half. He was charged with one run on three hits and no walks while striking out two in two innings of work. He owns a 1.59 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP over 17 innings.
|2014 summary: Coming off a successful audition for the role late in 2013, Danny Farquhar was shaping up to be one of the top sleeper closers in 2014 before the Mariners spoiled the fun by signing Fernando Rodney to fill the role in mid-February, but it didn't stop the diminutive right-hander from dominating. His 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings weren't quite as good as the year before, but they still ranked seventh among relief pitchers with at least 70 innings.|
Playing time status: Farquhar may not be the closer, and in a bullpen full of hard-throwing righties such as Yoervis Medina, Dominic Leone and Tom Wilhelmsen, he's not the for-sure backup plan either. But he's the most logical one, and considering Rodney is 37, on the verge of free agency and coming off a second half in which he compiled a 3.90 ERA and 1.60 WHIP, the Mariners may well need a backup plan.
2015 outlook: In other words, you shouldn't give up on Farquhar as a Fantasy sleeper. Granted, he's a much deeper sleeper now than he was last January, but in AL-only Rotisserie leagues, particularly as a handcuff to Rodney, he's absolutely worth drafting.
