Pacheco taking advantage of chance: Rockies first baseman Jordan Pacheco started his fifth game in a row at third base on Saturday against the Mariners, and for the fourth time in that span he drove in a run, going 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored in the 10-3 Rockies loss. (Updated 05/19/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Pacheco has been the teams choice at third base since Chris Nelson went down, and he has rewarded them with six hits in five games and four RBI. He has a home run and a double in that time span and has yet to strike out. He is more of a gap hitter than a power hitter at this point, so consider him just an NL-only Fantasy option for now. Justin Upton hit a two-out, two-run homer off closer Rafael Betancourt in the ninth inning to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 9-7 on Thursday in a game that was briefly delayed by a swarm of bees.
As a minor leaguer, Jordan Pacheco didn't draw much attention from Fantasy owners and for good reason. Aside from being a good contact hitter, he didn't seem to do much that would be useful in Fantasy, as he has little power and isn't much of a stolen base threat. However, his versatility has made him a potentially valuable piece of the Rockies' 2012 roster, and he has earned a share of the third base duties, along with Chris Nelson, this spring. Once Nolan Arenado emerges from the minors to claim the role later this season, Pacheco will likely revert to a utility role. With that being his long-term future, he should only be targeted in deeper NL-only leagues. (Updated 3/27/12)
