"It’s really a comparison to Chad, is what it comes down to," general manager Alex Anthopoulos said. "In this scenario, we get to option Chad and keep him, because right now he would be the next starter. We get to see if Wang might be an upgrade there. If things don’t work out with Wang, Chad’s still here and Chad could come right back up. But if Chad makes that start [Tuesday at Chicago] and something happens to some other starter, or Chad doesn’t perform, I don’t know who the next guy would be right now."

Wang was picked up by the team Friday, and is expected to make Tuesday's start against the White Sox. Jenkins was thought to be the favorite to receive the start. Jenkins has a 3.60 ERA in three major-league starts this year. 

The team has been using four starters recently, but will need a fifth next Tuesday. Jenkins has made three starts with the club this year. Through 15 innings, he has a 3.60 ERA. 

Jenkins made his third spot start of the season Friday against the Padres, allowing two runs in five innings. He has a 3.60 ERA in 15 innings. 

Jenkins, who also hit a batter Friday, has given up two runs while pitching five innings in each of his three starts for the Blue Jays. With Josh Johnson expected to re-join the rotation Tuesday, Jenkins could lose his rotation spot. The Blue Jays play five games next week, so Jenkins may not be used until the following week if he remains in the rotation.
