Westmoreland to get some at-bats: According to WEEI.com, Red Sox minor-league OF Ryan Westmoreland will get a few at-bats at DH in the Dominican Instructional League this week. It'll be his first game action since having surgery to remove a cavernous malformation in his brain stem in March 2010. "Ryan's continued to make strides," said Red Sox farm director Ben Crockett. "He faced several pitchers in live [batting practice] settings toward the end of the season and actually handled himself very well. It was everybody's decision that he was ready for a challenge. I think it's an important step for him to kind of get that under his belt." (Updated 12/05/2011)

Fantasy Analysis
The report stresses that the at-bats don't necessarily mean Westmoreland will be full-go for spring training, but they're obviously a step in the right direction considering his condition was considered life-threatening at the time. He has a long road ahead, but at age 21, Westmoreland still has a chance to regain his top prospect status and make a push for the big leagues. Continue to monitor his progress in long-term keeper leagues. (Updated 12/05/2011).
