AL MVP Mike Trout wants to steal more bases, cut down on strikeouts

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/25/15) Angels outfielder and reigning AL MVP Mike Trout arrived for spring training Wednesday with two goals on tap for 2015 -- cut down his strikeouts and increase his stolen-base total.

While Trout won the AL MVP in 2014, batting .287 with 36 home runs, 111 RBI and 115 runs, he led the league in strikeouts with 184 and had just 16 stolen bases.

“Plain and simple, I was chasing the high pitch, everybody knows that,” Trout said, per the Los Angeles Times. “There are things you can work on. The majority of time, they’re balls, and I was chasing them.

“I don’t like over-analyzing my swing. I do stuff in the cage and in batting practice that will help me in the game, but I’ll keep my same routine. It’s been working for me. I don’t want to switch anything up. I want to put the ball in play, let my legs get a few more hits and try to get on base more.”

Trout added he plans to talk with manager Mike Scioscia this spring about being more aggressive on the base paths.

“I definitely want to steal more bases,” Trout said. “Want to get to second base as much as I can. I have to take more chances. They were doing a pretty good job of holding me on. The pitchers were really quick to the plate. It’s going to be a challenge, but I’ll do my best.”

Angels' Mike Scioscia leaning toward Mike Trout batting second

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(2/19/15) Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he is considering batting center fielder Mike Trout second in his lineup, according to the Orange County Register.

"Right now there is no doubt, if you look at it, the [two]-spot is where he fits us best," Scioscia said.

Trout was the Angels' top batter in 2014, hitting .287 with 36 home runs. Some managers have been inclined to place their best hitters in the two-hole and Scioscia could be flirting with that trend in this instance.

Mike Trout leaves with stomach ailment

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/24/14) Angels outfielder Mike Trout ledt Wednesday's game early due to a stomach illness, according to the Associated Press.

Trout left the game in the fifth inning. He finished 1 for 2, with a single. Trout was replaced by Grant Green. The Angels will take on the Mariners Friday.
