|Kyle Gibson fires seven scoreless innings in win vs. Royals |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(7/29/14) Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson surrendered just two hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings while striking out seven to earn a win in his team's 2-1 victory over the Royals Tuesday.
Gibson (9-8) has mixed ugly lines with excellent performances over the last month, and he bounced back from a six-run loss in his previous start to turn in a scoreless line for the second time in his last three games. Gibson owns a 3.94 ERA and 61:32 K:BB ratio in 114 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the White Sox Sunday.

(7/29/14) A back issue that prevented Twins rookie right-hander Kyle Gibson from making his last start has subsided enough to allow him to pitch Tuesday in Kansas City.
Gibson hopes he can perform getter than he did in his last five starts. Despite throwing six innings of shutout ball against Kansas City, he has allowed 20 earned runs on 34 hits in 24 1/3 innings during that stretch.

(7/25/14) Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson felt "encouraged" by a long-toss session of 120 feet on Friday, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Gibson was scratched from Saturday's start because of a back issue. He tossed 10-15 pitches in the bullpen, and will throw a bullpen session Saturday, per MLB.com. Barring any setbacks, he could return to the rotation as early as Tuesday against the Royals in Kansas City.

(7/25/14) Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson's back injury will keep him out yet again Saturday, as the team announced he will not make his scheduled start against the White Sox.
Gibson has not pitched since July 18 due to this injury, as he was scratched from his previously scheduled outing Wednesday. Logan Darnell will be recalled from Triple-A to make the start, and it is not clear at this point if Gibson will be placed on the disabled list to clear the roster spot.
|Kyle Gibson missed nearly all of 2012 in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but he entered the 2013 season as the Twins' most major league-ready pitching prospect. He finally got the call to make his debut in late June, but Gibson failed to add sizzle to the Twins' moribund rotation. In 10 starts, he produced a 2-4 record with a 6.53 ERA, and while he was burned by a .340 batting average allowed on ground balls that may not have been of his doing, Gibson hurt himself by throwing only 59 percent of his pitches for strikes. The 26-year-old still has plenty of promise, but with the acquisitions of Phil Hughes and Ricky Nolasco, he may be shut out of a rotation spot. Despite the offseason upgrades, though, the Twins' rotation is not inpenetrable, so Gibson could get a second chance in midseason, if not right out of spring training. He is worth stashing in AL-only leagues as well as in deep dynasty formats.
