|Kyle Gibson in danger of missing Saturday start |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(7/24/14) Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters that the likelihood of pitcher Kyle Gibson making his next scheduled start on Saturday against the White Sox is, "not very good," FOX Sports North reports. The Twins remain hopeful of him starting Tuesday, if he's not ready Saturday.
Gibson was scratched from his Wednesday start because of a stiff back. The team will likely call someone up from the minors to start in his place on Saturday, MLB.com reports.

|Kyle Gibson out, Anthony Swarzak in as Wednesday starter |

(7/23/14) Twins starter Kyle Gibson has been scratched from his Wednesday start against visiting Cleveland due to back stiffness. Anthony Swarzak is set to move from the bullpen to replace him.
Swarzak has been a bit of a disappointment this season with a 4.34 ERA in 30 appearances. He posted a 2.91 ERA a year ago while working a major league-high 96 innings. The right-hander has been particularly poor against the Indians, who have battered him for five runs on nine hits in 1 2/3 innings in 2014.

(7/22/14) Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start due to lower back stiffness, FOXSportsNorth.com reports.
Gibson surrendered six runs in 6 1/3 innings during his first post-break start Friday. He owns a 4.19 ERA and 54:30 K:BB ratio in 107 1/3 innings.
|Kyle Gibson knocked around Friday against Rays |
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(7/18/14) Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson had a rough outing Friday against the Rays.
Gibson gave up six runs on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out one and walked one during the outing. Gibson ran into trouble in the third inning. After giving up two hits and a walk to load the bases, Gibson gave up a bases-clearing double to Evan Longoria. Ben Zobrist struck in the fifth inning, hitting a two-run shot of Gibson. In the seventh, Gibson allowed a single before he was taken out of the game. The run came around to score, and was charged to Gibson.
The loss drops Gibson to 8-8 on the season. His next start is slated to come against the Indians.
|Kyle Gibson missed nearly all of 2012 in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but he entered the 2013 season as the Twins' most major league-ready pitching prospect. He finally got the call to make his debut in late June, but Gibson failed to add sizzle to the Twins' moribund rotation. In 10 starts, he produced a 2-4 record with a 6.53 ERA, and while he was burned by a .340 batting average allowed on ground balls that may not have been of his doing, Gibson hurt himself by throwing only 59 percent of his pitches for strikes. The 26-year-old still has plenty of promise, but with the acquisitions of Phil Hughes and Ricky Nolasco, he may be shut out of a rotation spot. Despite the offseason upgrades, though, the Twins' rotation is not inpenetrable, so Gibson could get a second chance in midseason, if not right out of spring training. He is worth stashing in AL-only leagues as well as in deep dynasty formats.
