Matzek ready to resume career: The Denver Post reports Rockies SP prospect Tyler Matzek has rejoined Class A Asheville after taking a personal leave to work on his mechanics. He is scheduled to start Wednesday. "It wasn't taking time off," Matzek said from Asheville in a phone interview. "I was throwing more than I would have if I had been with the team. I was having issues with my command of pitches. My mechanics were bad. My confidence was tested. The best way to build confidence is by throwing strikes." (Updated 07/20/2011)

Fantasy Analysis
Matzek was all shorts of bad for high Class A Modesto and Asheville this season. He is 0-5 with a 10.71 ERA in 13 starts. He has mostly been plagued by command issues, walking 61 batters in 42 innings. But Matzek asked for time off so he could return to California to work with his personal pitching coach and appears confident he has worked out his problems. Only time will tell. Matzek came into the year as the Rockies' top pitching prospect, but this tremendous setback is making him a risky long-term Fantasy keeper. He could change that with a strong second half.
