Twins' Molitor receiving good reports on Miguel Sano

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/2/15) Twins manager Paul Molitor hasn't watched much batting practice thus far in spring training, but he keeps hearing good reports about prospect Miguel Sano, per the Pioneer Press.

“I just keep hearing how far balls are going,” Molitor said after Monday’s workout. “It’s fun for people to see. I hope he’s working on his whole game.

“He’s a young kid. But he’s doing fine. It’s good to see him healthy. He hasn’t had any issues with that (surgically repaired) elbow, and that’s what we’re trying to make sure we protect against as spring unfolds.”

While Molitor is pleased with how Sano is doing offensively, he really wants to see how Sano is progressing in the field.

“I was working today on the bunt defenses; he’s trying,” Molitor said. “There are things that are going to be a challenge for him. We’ve got to keep an eye on him. He’s a big boy. He carries it pretty well, but you’ve got to have some athleticism. He’s got to keep that … if he wants to play a corner-infield position in the big leagues, especially third base.”

Twins' Miguel Sano has recovered from Tommy John surgery

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(2/19/15) Twins third baseman Miguel Sano appears fully recovered from Tommy John surgery last year, reports the Pioneer Press.

Brad Steil, the Twins director of minor league operations, said Sano has not been limited during workouts.

"He's doing pretty much everything," Steil said. "I don't know if [trainers] are going to watch how much activity he has in the first few days. Sometimes guys get in there and air it out and overdo it."

Sano missed the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, but Steil said he is at full strength.

"[Trainers] may watch him from that standpoint, but at this point there's nothing he won't be able to do," Steil said. "He's able to do everything in the workouts."

Twins OF Byron Buxton seeking bounce-back 2015 campaign

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(1/24/15) Although Twins outfielder Byron Buxton is likely to start the year in Double-A, general manager Terry Ryan said that seeing both Buxton and third baseman Miguel Sano debut this season "would be a realistic point of view," according to the Associated Press.

Sano was sidelined in 2014 after having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last March. Buxton endured a frustrating injury-riddled 2014 campaign. He has been recovering from a broken index finger and was recently cleared to resume baseball activities.

"We've got to knock off some of the rust that's built up on him, because he hasn't played all that much," Ryan said. "I don't anticipate anything that went on with him last year really affecting him in a negative way. He just didn't get enough at-bats or enough playing time to say it was a developmental year. We lost basically a year with him, and that's not what you like."

Sano, Meyer, Rosario added to Twins' 40-man roster

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/20/14) The Twins announced Thursday they added starting pitcher Alex Meyer, pitcher Jason Wheeler, outfielder Eddie Rosario and third baseman Miguel Sano to the 40-man roster.

Twins prospect Miguel Sano won't play winter ball

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10/24/14) Twins infielder Miguel Sano won't play winter ball, according to the St. Paul Pioneer-Press

Sano missed most of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He has not experienced a setback, but "doctors do not want him to play," according to the report. Sano was considered one of the top prospects in the game prior to the 2014 season.
