Twins send three down to the minors

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/16/15) Twins have optioned left-hander Jason Wheeler and right-hander Lester Oliveros to Triple-A Rochester. Third baseman Miguel Sano was optioned down to Double-A Chattanooga on Monday, according to the team's official website. Minnesota has 45 players left in big-league camp.

Twins third baseman Miguel Sano to begin season in Double-A

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/15/15) Twins third baseman Miguel Sano was notified after Sunday's game he will begin the season at Double-A Chattanooga, reports the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

"(Twins manager Paul Molitor) told me I'm going to start in Double-A," Sano said. "I'm fine. I'm OK. I'll go to the other side for work. I'll have the same plan I had over here. I'm feeling normal and happy. I want to have a good season. I'm really excited to go to the other side. Everything is good."

Sano thinks he will only be in the minors for a few weeks.

"Probably one month," Sano said. "A couple weeks. I don't know. I'll play the same."

Twins prospect Miguel Sano: I've been throwing 100 percent

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/4/15) Twins prospect Miguel Sano is still battling to get back on the field after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. Sano suffered the injury in an exhibition game in 2014 and Sano is finally starting to feel strong in the arm again.

"It's exciting," Sano said. "I feel pretty good. I feel healthy. Nothing has been bothering me. I've been throwing 100 percent every time."

Manager Paul Molitor is keeping a close eye on Sano's progress this spring.

"I was monitoring how he was doing on the drills, and he didn't have any issues with that elbow," Molitor said. "I thought it was a good day, playing the Gophers, to get some of our young guys the chance to play. And I know people want to see him play, so it's a good thing."

Twins' Molitor receiving good reports on Miguel Sano

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/2/15) Twins manager Paul Molitor hasn't watched much batting practice thus far in spring training, but he keeps hearing good reports about prospect Miguel Sano, per the Pioneer Press.

“I just keep hearing how far balls are going,” Molitor said after Monday’s workout. “It’s fun for people to see. I hope he’s working on his whole game.

“He’s a young kid. But he’s doing fine. It’s good to see him healthy. He hasn’t had any issues with that (surgically repaired) elbow, and that’s what we’re trying to make sure we protect against as spring unfolds.”

While Molitor is pleased with how Sano is doing offensively, he really wants to see how Sano is progressing in the field.

“I was working today on the bunt defenses; he’s trying,” Molitor said. “There are things that are going to be a challenge for him. We’ve got to keep an eye on him. He’s a big boy. He carries it pretty well, but you’ve got to have some athleticism. He’s got to keep that … if he wants to play a corner-infield position in the big leagues, especially third base.”

Twins' Miguel Sano has recovered from Tommy John surgery

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(2/19/15) Twins third baseman Miguel Sano appears fully recovered from Tommy John surgery last year, reports the Pioneer Press.

Brad Steil, the Twins director of minor league operations, said Sano has not been limited during workouts.

"He's doing pretty much everything," Steil said. "I don't know if [trainers] are going to watch how much activity he has in the first few days. Sometimes guys get in there and air it out and overdo it."

Sano missed the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, but Steil said he is at full strength.

"[Trainers] may watch him from that standpoint, but at this point there's nothing he won't be able to do," Steil said. "He's able to do everything in the workouts."
