Tommy Field's emergence could keep Rougned Odor in minors

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/23/15) Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor has done well since his demotion to Triple-A Round Rock, batting .281 with three home runs and nine RBI in nine games.

However, despite his success, his recall might not be so quick since Tommy Field has provided stability at second base for Texas, according to manager Jeff Banister.

"If you give a guy like that a timeline and he hasn't met expectations, and the timeline passes, I don't think that's appropriate," Banister said of Odor, per MLB.com. "We told Rougned to focus on defense, turn the double play especially, get the hands and feet together. On offense, stay aggressive, swing at pitches you can hit. You're not going to eliminate chasing [bad pitches], but slow it down and control the strike zone. Get back to using left and center field.

"Go back to being that gritty type of player that other teams don't like, but players on your team love. Have that edge that everybody said he had. He needs to focus on being a minor-league player trying to get back to the big leagues. That's what will get him that edge."

Field has hit .267 with one double, two home runs and five RBI in 10 games since his promotion from Double-A. But it seems Banister is really happy with his effort in the field.

"He has stabilized us defensively and given us some pretty good hits in key situations," Banister said. "His at-bats have been calm. He has been stabilizing in a spot where we needed somebody to step up and play well."

Rangers 2B Tommy Field records two hits, two RBI against Yankees

by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(5/23/15) Rangers second baseman Tommy Field had his second multi-hit game of the season in his team's 10-9 win over the Yankees on Friday.

Field was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI. The performance brought his batting average to .267 in 30 at-bats on the season.

Rangers second baseman Tommy Field blasts second home run

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5/17/15) Rangers second baseman Tommy Field went 1 for 3 at the plate in Texas' 10-8 loss to the Indians on Saturday. Field did his damage in the second inning when he blasted the first pitch he saw from Danny Salazar over the left center field wall, his second of the season.

Field is now hitting .238 with two RBI in 21 at-bats this season.

Rangers' Tommy Field recalled on Monday, hits first career home run

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(5/11/15) Tommy Field, who was called up Monday afternoon, connected for his first career home run in the Rangers' win over the Royals.

His seventh-inning blast to center field traveled an estimated 428 feet.

Field went 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored while impressing manager Jeff Banister with his defense and his disciplined approach at the plate, MLB.com reports.

"To drive a ball out of the ballpark, yes," Banister said. "The other side of that is he played good defense and handled the baseball. Very attentive. The energy level should give him some good night's rest. Something to ride high on to come in tomorrow ready to play."

Rangers plug new 2B Thomas Field into Monday lineup

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5/11/15) It didn't take the Rangers long to get just-promoted second baseman Thomas Field into their lineup. He is set to start Monday against Kansas City. Field is batting eighth.

The 28-year-old Field, who has 76 big-league at-bats, earned the move up by compiling a .298/.373/.538 slash line at Triple-A Round Rock.
