| Hak-Ju Lee rehabbing knee injury |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/7/13) Rays shortstop prospect Hak-Ju Lee, who suffered torn ligaments in his left knee in late April while playing for Triple-A Durham, is rehabbing his injury and no decision on surgery has been made yet, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Lee, who is considered the Rays' fifth-best prospect by MLB.com, was batting .422 in 15 games prior to getting hurt.

| Hak-Ju Lee getting second MRI |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4/22/13) Injured Rays minor league shortstop Hak-Ju Lee flew to the Rays' minor league complex in Port Charlotte, Fla., on Monday to undergo a second MRI exam, MLB.com reports. The second MRI will determine the course of action for the torn ligaments in his left knee.
Lee is likely to undergo season-ending surgery.
"There is a pretty good chance, I would say," Mitch Lukevics, director of Minor League operations for the Rays, said. "Nothing's definitive, but there's a pretty good chance. ... With ligament damage, there usually is."

| Hak-Ju Lee tears ligaments in knee in minors |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (4/21/13) Rays prospect Hak-Ju Lee suffered torn ligaments in his left knee Saturday while playing for Triple-A Durham, The Tampa Bay Times reports. The injury could sideline him for the remainder of the season.
Lee, 22, is batting .422 (19 for 45) with one homer, seven RBI and six stolen bases through 15 games for Durham.

| Rays option three to Triple-A |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (3/15/13) The Tampa Bay Rays made another wave of roster cuts Friday and optioned the following players to Triple-A Durham: infielder Tim Beckham, shortstop Hak-Ju Lee and catcher Robinson Chirinos. Beckham recently returned to action after needing stitches earlier this week to close a cut under his right eye when he was hit by a thrown baseball.

| Lee hits stride after break |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (7/23/12) Rays shortstop prospect Hak-Ju Lee has been a much better offensive contributor for Double-A Montgomery in the second half. Lee hit just .243 in 67 first-half games, but he is batting .331 with a .392 on-base percentage, .444 slugging percentage and .836 OPS in 30 second-half games. He also has five triples, five doubles, 12 stolen bases, 14 RBI and 22 runs after the Double-A All-Star break.
|
| At this time last year, Hak-Ju Lee was a stud in waiting at the shortstop position. But at this time last year, he was coming off a season in which he hit .296 with 15 triples and 33 stolen bases. On the one hand, he exhibited the same basic skill set in 2012 -- he still finished with a high number of triples and steals, and his lack of homers wasn't anything new -- but on the other hand, he slipped in enough areas to drop his OPS by about 100 points, to below .700, even though he was getting his second taste of Double-A pitching. And his OPS was never that high to begin with, which is the most discouraging part. A decline for a prospect whose high standing depended on some measure of improvement -- particularly in the power department -- is rightful cause for pessimism. Of course, at age 22, Lee is hardly a finished product, so perhaps all the downer talk is premature. The Rays still view him as their long-term shortstop, and if nothing else, you know he's going to steal bases. He's worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues in case a series of injuries forces an early promotion, but his long-term keeper value isn't what it once was. (Updated 1/4/13) |
