| Stephen Lombardozzi to see more playing time |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (5/1/13) Nationals infielder Stephen Lombardozzi may see more playing time at second base.
Nationals manager reportedly told a Washington radio station that Lombardozzi would start at second for the remainer of the team's series against the Braves. The two teams will play Wednesday and Thursday before the Nationals go to Pittsburgh. Lombardozzi is hitting .244/.262/.317 in 41 at-bats this year.

| Steve Lombardozzi hitless again |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (4/26/13) Batting second in the order, Nationals infielder Stephen Lombardozzi went 0 for 3 in his team's 1-0 win over the Reds Friday. He's 0 for 8 in his last two games while starting at third base, dropping his season line to .270/.281/.351.
Lombardozzi has been getting work over rookie Anthony Rendon, but the mini-slump could mean more playing time for Rendon.

| Stephen Lombardozzi moving up in the order |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (4/25/13) Nationals infielder Stephen Lombardozzi will bat second and play third Thursday.
The team is trying to shake up its batting order, and have pushed Jayson Werth to the cleanup spot. Lombardozzi utilizes a contact-heavy approach that might be ideal for the second spot in the lineup. He'll face against Bronson Arroyo.

| Steve Lombardozzi will draw start Thursday |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (4/24/13) Nationals infielder Stephen Lombardozzi will draw the start at third base for the struggling Anthony Rendon, who has been filling in for the injured Ryan Zimmerman.
"I’m going to have to juggle it up and do a few things tomorrow. Change the mind set," manager Davey Johnson told MLB.com. "I’m going to get Lombo in the lineup, get him hitting in the top of the order. Move Werth around. He said some things to me after the ballgame. So just shake some things up a little bit. Little different roles."
The Nationals are looking for a spark in the lineup after dropping six straight home games and scoring just four runs in their last four games.

| Stephen Lombardozzi waiting on call |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (4/22/13) Despite believing he should be an everyday player, Nationals second baseman Stephen Lombardozzi has maintained his mental focus as a bench player and is hitting .333 on the season. He recorded another hit as a pinch-hitter Sunday against the Mets and has reached base safely in five of his past seven games.
"I don't know the exact formula, but the one thing I've been trying to do is ... get extra work, especially hitting-wise and doing drill work. I'm hitting in the cage, keeping my swing, mechanics-wise, in order to stay sharp," he told MLB.com on Sunday. "I'm trying to do whatever I can to stay sharp without playing."
Lombardozzi started four games at second base last week when Danny Espinosa was sidelined and went 6 for 18 with two doubles and three RBI.

| Even though he didn't have a steady job at any position, Steve Lombardozzi found plenty of work in his rookie season with the Nationals, starting 83 games and playing in a total of 126 games. He was every bit the contact hitter that he had been in the minors, but Lombardozzi's results fell a little short of the standard he set in his various minor league stops. Instead of flirting with .300, Lombardozzi hit just .273, and he did so with very little power and only five stolen bases. While it's doubtful that he will ever be much of a home run threat, Lombardozzi should produce more doubles and triples this season, and the potential is there for a 20-steal season. Even without a regular role, Lombardozzi can do enough good things to be worth drafting in NL-only leagues. (Updated 1/8/13) |
