Justin Miller among handful of Tigers sent down

(3/14/14) One-time premier pitching prospect Justin Miller is among five players dispatched to the minors by the Tigers on Friday. He is headed to Triple-A Toledo along with first baseman Jordan Lennerton and center fielder Daniel Fields. Third baseman Francisco Martinez has been assigned to Double-A Erie while second baseman Devon Travis was sent to minor league camp.

Miller was 9-1 with a 1.83 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 69 innings at the Double-A level in 2011 before Tommy John surgery halted his progress.

(6/2/13) The Tigers have acquired outfielder Francisco Martinez from the Mariners in exchange for cash or a player to be named later, the Detroit Free Press reports. Martinez was initially drafted by Detroit and was traded to Seattle in the Doug Fister trade. Martinez has a brutal .496 OPS in 126 at-bats at Triple-A Tacoma this year.

(5/27/13) The Mariners designated outfielder Francisco Martinez for assignment Monday, MLB.com reports. That makes room on the 40-man roster for Nick Franklin. 

Martinez, who was playing with Triple-A Tacoma, was acquired in the trade with the Tigers for Doug Fister.

(3/16/13) Mariners made another round of roster cuts Friday. They optioned infielder Carlos Triunfel, lefty Bobby LaFromboise, righty Yoervis Medina and infielder Vinnie Catricala to Triple-A Tacoma. They also optioned outfielder Julio Morban and infielder Francisco Martinez to Double-A West Tennessee while righty Andrew Carraway was reassigned to minor-league camp.
