| Nationals trying to get Tyler Moore more at-bats |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/15/13) Nationals outfielder/first baseman Tyler Moore hasn't provided the same lift offensively off the bench in 2013 that he did last season. After 23 games, Moore is hitting a disappointing .145 with one home run.
"Tyler Moore is in a little bit of a funk, he had been kind of all year," manager Davey Johnson said, per MLB.com. "He hasn't been himself. We are going to try to get him more at-bats to get him in a groove."
Hitting coach Rick Eckstein said Moore is missing on too many fastballs, which he added is also a problem for Danny Espinosa, who is also off to a slow start.
"They have to get back on the fastball," Eckstein said. "You can't be in between. …. When you are facing guys as tough as Kershaw, you are not going to get too many pitches that are over the heart of the plate. The breaking stuff, when it's down in the zone, it has late sharp bite on it. It's pretty good. You have to get on the fastball. Anytime you are sitting in between, you are late on the heater and early in the off speed. You have to get back on the heater."

| Tyler Moore knocks in three |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (4/15/13) Tyler Moore received his first start for the Nationals in Monday's series opener against the Marlins and made the most of the opportunity. Playing first base, he went 2 for 5 with three RBI and a run scored in a 10-3 win.
The 26-year-old singled home two in his first at-bat before hitting an RBI double in the third inning. They were his first RBI of the year.

| Tyler Moore in Monday's lineup |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (4/15/13) Nationals first baseman Tyler Moore is in the team's starting lineup Monday.
Moore will be taking the place of Adam LaRoche, who is receiving a normal off day. Moore will face-off against left-hander Wade LeBlanc. He will bat sixth and play first base.

| Moore to platoon in center field |
by Adam Moore | CBSSports.com (7/23/12) With outfielder Stephen Lombardozzi to see starts at second base with shortstop Ian Desmond on the disabled list, manager Davey Johnson said he will platoon Roger Bernadina and Tyler Moore in center field. Its basically going to be a platoon situation, kind of like I was with Lombo, manager Davey Johnson told the Washington Post. This is a more natural platoon. You dont really see a platoon with a switch-hitter. I like the lineup with Desmond hitting sixth. I cant have afford to not have a run-producer with Desmond out.

| Tyler Moore entered the 2012 season with the reputation of a prospect who had power but questionable plate discipline. He split the year between the majors and Triple-A Syracuse, and at both levels, he showed that he could continue to launch homers while climbing the organizational ladder and draw walks as well. Granted, when the Nationals called Moore up, they used him primarily against lefties, but he actually hit right-handed pitchers better. With 46 strikeouts in 156 at-bats, Moore still has work to do on his contact skills, but his .263/.327/.513 line showed that he is ready for the majors. Moore will settle into a bench role again this year, but he's just a starter's injury away from making a contribution in deeper mixed leagues. (Updated 1/8/13) |
