Paredes doing poorly in minors: Astros third baseman Jimmy Paredes is not giving the front office much reason to consider bringing him back to the majors thanks to a slow start at Triple-A Oklahoma City. Paredes, who lost his starting job to Chris Johnson this spring, is batting just .206 (7 for 34) with no extra-base hits and one RBI in 10 games. He also has eight strikeouts. (Updated 04/16/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Paredes better be ready for the long haul at Triple-A if he keeps at this pace. It's not like he has a chance for a quick recall since Johnson is off to a nice start. But Paredes made a nice impact when he was in the majors last year. His poor spring and poor start in the minors is erasing all those memories. There's no need to hold onto Paredes in Fantasy. 03/22/2012 20:17 Astros camp report: Final season in NL will be another stinker
Quick, can you name two players on the Astros? That's not easy. Scott Miller says they not only have an identity issue, their farm has dried up, and they're bound to have another losing campaign before going to the AL.

The Astros enter their final season in the National League with a new general manager, new owner and little hope.
03/19/2012 12:56 2012 Draft Prep: Tiers for fears over uncertainty
The inherent stress of drafting can become overwhelming. How do you make the most of what's left once those middle and late rounds arrive. Al Melchior has some thoughts in his hitting tiers, using some less conventional methods.
After batting .270 with 10 homers, 41 RBI and 29 stolen bases for Double-A Corpus Christi, Jimmy Paredes received his first call to the majors a year ago and held his own. He took over the regular duties at third base and batted .286 with two home runs and 18 RBI in 46 games down the stretch. The Astros planned on playing him at shortstop to begin 2012 but after acquiring Jed Lowrie from the Red Sox, the 23-year-old will instead compete for the job at third with Chris Johnson and Matt Downs. Paredes has shown some decent pop in the minors and has the speed to steal 30-plus bases, and should see plenty of playing time on a Houston squad that is expected to be bad again. He would be worth a look NL-only formats if he wins the starting job, but don’t plan on targeting Paredes in larger formats on Draft Day. (Updated 2/9/12)
