(4/20/13) The Indians activated Scott Kazmir off the disabled list to start Saturday night against Houston, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
The Indians optioned Cord Phelps to Triple-A Columbus to make room for Kazmir.

(4/16/13) The Indians have promoted second baseman Cord Phelps.
The team's starting second baseman, Jason Kipnis, was scratched from his third-straight game Tuesday. Although his injury is considered day-to-day, it's somewhat worrisome to see Phelps promoted. Mike Aviles will start at second base Tuesday, but Phelps could see time at the position if Kipnis misses a few more games.

(3/20/13) Indians second baseman Cord Phelps collected a double and a single in four at-bats against the Angels Wednesday to raise his spring average to .341.
Phelps is in the mix to make the team's opening-day roster, which has one or two available spots remaining.
"Regardless of whether he makes our team or not," manager Terry Francona told MLB.com Wednesday, "he's played to the point where he's going to help us win games, which we're thrilled about. I know we have decisions to make coming up in a couple weeks, but we're so happy with the way he's played."

(9/3/12) The Indians recalled pitcher David Huff, pitcher Scott Maine, infielder Cord Phelps and utility player Vinny Rottino from Triple-A Columbus following Monday's game against the Tigers.

| Cord Phelps has shown some nice pop in the minors the last two seasons, averaging 15 home runs and slugging about .460 over that span. With a .285 career minor league average and .812 OPS, Phelps has failed to come close to those numbers in the majors. Able to play any infield position (but a second baseman by trade), Phelps could stick with Cleveland as a utility player, but could get squeezed out with the presence of Mike Aviles, who offers the same coverage. Unless a couple injuries strike, Phelps has no Fantasy value at this time. (Updated 1/4/13) |
