(3/30/13) The Cubs have released catcher Michael Brenly, according to the Chicago Tribune. He made four plate appearances for the team this spring without recording a hit.
Brenly spent the entire 2012 season at Double-A Tennessee, hitting .227/.295/.342 in 300 plate appearances.

(3/8/13) The Cubs continued shaping their roster for the upcoming season and shifted three players Friday. Outfielder Matt Szczur was optioned to Double-A Tennessee, while pitcher Dayan Diaz and catcher Michael Brenly -- both non-roster invitees -- were moved to the minor-league camp.
