| Indians return Chris McGuiness to Rangers |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (3/27/13) The Indians announced Wednesday that 1B Chris McGuiness has been returned to the Texas Rangers. A Rule V selection by the Indians, McGuiness hit .195/.267/.244 in 45 plate appearances with the team this spring. The transaction leaves the Indians with one empty spot on the 40-man roster.

| Indians would like to keep Chris McGuiness |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (3/25/13) Indians first baseman Chris McGuiness, who is a Rule 5 pick from the Rangers, remains in major-league camp, but he won't be on the opening day roster, according to MLB.com. The Indians would like to work out a deal with the Rangers to keep McGuiness, who hit .268 with 23 homers and 77 RBI at Double-A last season.

| Chris McGuiness had a fairly busy winter. He was named the Arizona Fall League MVP after hitting .283 with four home runs, 27 RBI, and five doubles. Left unprotected in the Rule 5 draft, he was picked off the Rangers' roster by the Indians and looked like he might start at DH until the Indians signed Michael Bourn, creating a ripple effect that will likely force McGuiness to the bench. The 24-year-old has a big bat -- he hit 23 home runs in 456 at-bats last season for the Rangers' Double-A affiliate in Frisco. And he hit 19 home runs across two levels in 2010. If McGuiness works his way into semi-regular at-bats, he could provide some pop for an AL-only team. He's worth a flier late in those formats. (Updated 2/13/13) |
