| Jordany Valdespin getting test run vs. righties |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (6/16/13) Mets infielder Jordany Valdespin has started the last six games coming into Sunday against the against the Cubs because a right-handed hurler has been on the hill. It's a trend likely to continue, manager Terry Collins said Saturday.
"I would probably play him against the right-handed pitching a little bit," Collins said, per the New York Post. "I want to see how he does."
Valdespin is struggling in June, batting .214 (6 for 28) with one double, one RBI and five strikeouts in nine games (eight starts).

| Jordany Valdespin picks up two hits in start |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (6/11/13) With six right-handed pitchers in a row coming up on the schedule, the Mets plan to leave Jordany Valdespin in the everyday lineup at second base for the immediate future. Valdespin has been solid for the Mets this season largely in a reserve role, and Tuesday against the Cardinals was his first start at second base.
"I think it's my time, because they want to give me the chance to show I can do my job and help my team," Valdespin told MLB.com prior to the game. "The best I can do is come to the field and work hard every day, and focus on the team when the opportunity is there -- ready my mind and ready my body to do my job."
Valdespin went 2 for 4 in the game with one strikeout, before being replaced in a double-switch in the eighth inning. Valdespin is hitting .237 in 97 at-bats.

| Manager trying to get Jordany Valdespin more work |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (6/11/13) After the Mets' most recent demotions, second baseman Jordany Valdespin will get more work, according to NJ.com.
Mets manager Terry Collins said getting Valdespin more playing time is a priority. "I want to get Valdespin in there," he said. "As we’re talking about as we move down the line here, try to get him in the lineup." He added that he would like to get Valdespin time at the top of the batting order.
Valdespin is hitting .226/.294/.376 in 93 at-bats.

| Jordany Valdespin needs to learn how to hit leadoff |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (6/9/13) Mets manager Terry Collins moved outfielder Jordany Valdespin into the second spot in the lineup Sunday against the Marlins, as he vowed to get Valdespin more playing time "as we move down the line here."
"As we said in spring training: The one place he kind of fits is if we can get him to understand what it is to be a leadoff hitter," Collins said, per ESPN. "So I wanted to hit him at the top of the lineup. Q [Omar Quintanilla] has done a good job in the leadoff spot. So I thought to put Valdy in the position where he's got to start learning how to handle the bat a little bit. Learning how to pull. He likes to bunt. Maybe there's a situation with a runner on, he can bunt somebody over. So I just want him at the top of the order."
|
| Jordany Valdespin was a surprise contributor for the Mets last season and provided the club with some pop off the bench. He hit a franchise-record five pinch-hit home runs and batted .241 with eight homers and 26 RBI in 191 at-bats in the majors. He also stole 10 bases while playing all over the field for New York. Valdespin will compete for a bench spot during the spring but if he ends up seeing extended playing time, he could become a viable option in Fantasy. Keep an eye on the situation going forward but plan on leaving the 24-year-old for NL-only formats on Draft Day. (Updated 12/12/12) |
