Marlins trying to work out new deals for Yelich, Hechavarria
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(11/17/14) Now that the Marlins have signed star outfielder Giancarlo Stanton to a long-term deal, the team is still trying to sign shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria and outfielder Christian Yelich to multiyear deals, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.
As far as outfielder Marcell Ozuna and starting pitcher Jose Fernandez are concerned, however, it appears it could be a little more difficult to work out contract extensions, especially for Fernandez.

Adeiny Hechavarria out of lineup Tuesday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(9/16/14) Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria is not in the lineup Tuesday due to arm soreness, MLB.com reports. He has hit .281/.312/.366 with seven stolen bases in 495 at-bats. The shortstop is day-to-day.
|2014 Summary: If it weren't for triples, Adeiny Hechavarria might not have had any Fantasy value at all. Though the Marlins' shortstop didn't hit for much power, even as a minor leaguer, he's hit more triples (18) than anyone other than Denard Span over the last two seasons. Hechavarria also showcased his speed in collecting 34 infield hits last season but he has little appeal as a base stealer due to inefficiency (18 for 33 in his career). Speed and contact skills can be enough to make a shortstop relevant for mixed leagues. But a lack of steals (seven, to be exact) and poor run production (53 runs, 34 RBI) left Hechavarria on the outside looking in at the top 25 at his position.|
Playing time status: Hechavarria missed 14 games with a triceps strain; otherwise, he started all but two games. Owners can count on him to get plenty of playing time.
2015 Outlook: Hechavarria did make a lot of progress in 2014, and he is still young enough to break out even further. Erick Aybar's early years with the Angels looked fairly similar, and in his mid-20s, he developed into a bigger stolen base and run-scoring threat. Whether that will be Hechavarria's future remains to be seen, but it's conceivable he could have mixed league value just yet. He doesn't need to be drafted outside of NL-only leagues, but Hechavarria is worth monitoring during the season as a possible waivers pickup.
