|(4/5/15) The Mets placed four pitchers on the 15-day disabled list Sunday including: Vic Black (shoulder), Josh Edgin (Tommy John), Bobby Parnell (Tommy John) and Zack Wheeler (Tommy John), retro to March 27, the team announced.
Wheeler and Edgin underwent Tommy John surgery last month and are expected to miss the 2015 season while recovering from the injury.

|(3/25/15) The Mets announced that pitcher Zack Wheeler underwent surgery for ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction. Wheeler's flexor pronator tendon was also operated on by Dr. David Altchek Wednesday, according to Newsday.
Wheeler was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament after he was scratched from a March 14 Grapefruit League game. A report also surfaced that he pitched with a torn tendon the previous season. He went 11-11 with a 3.54 ERA in 32 starts last season.
The 24-year-old right-hander will soon be placed on the 60-day disabled list before the start of the season, and is projected to have a recovery time of approximately 14 months.
"He is expected to make a full recovery," the club said in a statement, per ESPN.
Mets SP Zack Wheeler scheduled for Tommy John surgery

|(3/20/15) After meeting with doctors earlier in the week, Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler has officially opted for Tommy John surgery.
The 24-year-old right-hander is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday or Wednesday, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN. Dr. David Altchek will perform the surgery, per the report. He will be the 10th pitcher in New York's organization to undergo Tommy John surgery since 2013.
"[When] they told me on the phone, I came out here and everybody was sort of staring at me," Wheeler said, per NJ.com. "And I was like, 'Torn UCL'. And they all just sort of came up to me. I cried a little bit. They're all really supportive. Bunch of really good guys in here."
Wheeler was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament after he was scratched from a March 14 Grapefruit League game. A report also surfaced that he pitched with a torn tendon the previous season.
"Honestly, I've had pain in that spot in my elbow since I got drafted, since before I got drafted," Wheeler said, per Newsday.
Wheeler went 11-11, with a 3.54 ERA in 32 starts for the Mets last year. He has a lifetime 3.50 ERA through 49 starts (285 1/3 innings). He is expected to be fully recovered in time for the 2016 season. Dillon Gee and Rafael Montero will compete for the the club's final rotation spot.
"They're going to go in and basically clean up everything," Wheeler said, per Newsday. "So, I'm going to have a new elbow when I come out."
Report: Mets' Zack Wheeler dealt with torn tendon last season

|(3/19/15) Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler underwent platelet-rich plasma therapy twice this offseason due to a torn tendon in his elbow, Newsday reports.
Wheeler had been cleared to continue pitching last season despite chronic pain caused by what the team called inflammation of the tendon. However, a source said the tendon was "a little bit torn," per the report.
Wheeler has been diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament. He was scheduled to meet with the team doctor Wednesday to determine whether to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair the elbow.
Agent: Mets did nothing wrong with the handling of Zack Wheeler
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(3/18/15) B.B. Abbott, who is the agent for starting pitcher Zack Wheeler, said the Mets did nothing wrong in their handling of Wheeler, who is sidelined due to a torn UCL in his elbow.
"Anything that happened last year, or any other time Zack has been a Met, has been with complete and full knowledge of the circumstances, and occurred after consultation with qualified orthopedic surgeons,” Abbott told ESPNNewYork.com.
Wheeler is meeting with the Mets' team doctor Wednesday to determine if he will need Tommy John surgery.
|2014 summary: Zack Wheeler ranked fifth among qualifying major-league starters in average fastball velocity (95.0 mph, according to FanGraphs), and that helped him rack up 187 strikeouts in 185 1/3 innings. Control, however, continued to be a challenge for Wheeler, as his 79 walks contributed to a 1.33 WHIP. So despite a 3.54 ERA, Wheeler finished outside the top 50 starting pitchers in Fantasy points. A lack of efficiency limited Wheeler to 185 1/3 innings, even though he made 32 starts.|
Playing time status: That velocity apparently took its toll, though. Wheeler had a sore elbow early in spring training, and an MRI revealed a torn UCL. He'll have Tommy John surgery and miss all of 2015.
2015 outlook: Wheeler has exceptional stuff and, in all likelihood, a bright future in the majors, so if the keeper cost is low, you'll want to stash 24-year-old in long-term leagues. Manager Terry Collins revealed that Wheeler pitched through elbow soreness at times last year as well, so it's possible he wasn't quite right then either. Just shows you the extent of his upside.
