Willie Bloomquist assumes role of hero in Friday win
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5/24/14) A rare start for Mariners infielder Willie Bloomquist turned out quite in their favor Friday night. The veteran provided the key hit in a defeat of Houston with a two-run homer in the sixth inning that gave his team a 5-1 lead. He had already hit a sacrifice fly.

Bloomquist had not had a hit previously since May 4.

Kyle Seager replaced in the lineup due to illness
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/9/14) Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals, due to flu-like symptoms. He was replaced by Willie Bloomquist in the starting lineup.
Willie Bloomquist officially back with Mariners
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/5/13) Willie Bloomquist finalized his two-year, $5.8 million deal with the Mariners Thursday, bringing him back to where he began his major-league career in 2002. Bloomquist hit .317 in 139 at-bats last year with the Diamondbacks, but he missed significant time with an oblique injury and a broken hand.

"As of right now, I feel great, my body feels 100 percent and I'm ready to go," the 36-year-old told The Seattle Times. "I took a 94 mph fastball off my hand and broke a couple of bones in it. That's where I missed the bulk of my time. Injuries are going to happen. I've always tried to get between the lines and give it 100 percent. I feel like you are supposed to play that way. And along with that comes some injuries."

Bloomquist is expected to play a reserve role for the Mariners.

Mariners to reunite with Willie Bloomquist
by Al Melchior | Data Analyst
(12/2/13) MLB.com reports that free agent utility player Willie Bloomquist reached an agreement to sign with the Mariners on Monday. According to the Arizona Republic, Bloomquist will have a two-year contract in the $5-to-$6 million range.

Bloomquist appeared in only 48 games with the Diamondbacks in 2013, hitting .317 and playing second base, shortstop and left field. He spent the first seven years of his major league career with the Mariners.

Diamondbacks file for free agency
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/6/13) Diamondbacks third baseman Eric Chavez, catcher Wil Nieves and utility player Willie Bloomquist have declared free agency.

Of them, Chavez played the biggest role in 2013, hitting nine homers in 228 at-bats, but he may be expendable with the emergence of 22-year-old Matt Davidson.
