| Scott Downs looks healthy in appearance |

(5/11/13) Angels reliever Scott Downs, who has been dealing with a foot injury, was able to get back on the mound Saturday against the White Sox. Downs came on in relief of Jerome Williams in the seventh inning and retired the lone batter he faced.
After allowing three runs over his first four appearances, Downs has allowed just one run over his last 12 outings (10 1/3 innings).

(5/11/13) Angels reliever Scott Downs is not expected be to placed on the disabled list after injuring his right foot Thursday against the Astros, MLB.com reports. Manager Mike Scioscia said Downs' foot is "still a little tender."
Downs is 0-2 with a 2.96 ERA to go along with eight strikeouts and five walks over 15 appearances (12 1/3 innings).

(5/9/13) Angels relief pitcher Scott Downs was removed from Thursday's game against the Astros with a right foot injury, MLB.com reports. He recorded one out while allowing two hits in the eighth inning before coming out.
Closer Ernesto Frieri entered the game and stranded the tying and go-ahead runs, preventing Downs from being charged with any earned runs.

(5/4/13) Angels reliever Scott Downs, who has been dealing with soreness in his right rib cage, was available to pitch out of the bullpen Saturday, MLB.com reports. Downs last pitched Wednesday against the Athletics.
The left-hander is 0-2 with a 3.27 ERA in 13 appearances (11 innings).

(5/3/13) Angels relief pitcher Scott Downs might need to be placed on the disabled list after suffering a "freak" rib injury Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"Scottie's really important to us and we wouldn't want to do a premature DL if he's only going to need four or five days," manager Mike Scioscia told the Times. "But you might have to consider some things."
Downs has posted a 3.27 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 11 innings this season.

| Scott Downs doesn't have the stuff to close doesn't really have the pedigree either, but that's what the 37-year-old found himself doing last May, after intended closer Jordan Walden laid an egg. It didn't last long. Hard-throwing right-hander Ernesto Frieri -- who at least had the stuff to close -- eventually claimed the job, with Downs closing only occasionally against tougher left-handers. In fact, even though he pitched for the final six weeks of the season, Downs didn't get a single save after missing three weeks in August with a strained shoulder. Now that the Angels have signed Ryan Madson -- who has both the stuff and pedigree to close -- Downs is that much further removed from the role. Chances are something would have to happen to both Madson and Frieri for the left-hander to get even a sniff. He may help some in ERA and WHIP, but even that's no guarantee.
