Downs records third save: Angels reliever Scott Downs (knee) managed to record his third save on Saturday at Texas. Downs needed just four pitches to get the final out of the game after Ernesto Frieri went 1 2/3 innings in the eighth and ninth. Downs struck out the only batter he faced and his ERA remains perfect on the season. (Updated 05/12/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Downs is healthy again as he pitched for the first time in May and got the recorded save. Downs is going to be in line for plenty of saves going forward, but is more of a mid-range option in mixed Fantasy formats. (Updated 05/12/2012).

05/12/2012 19:58 Any win, even in May, is important for these disappointing Angels
The Angels are looking to turn around their nightmare season and beating the Rangers is a good start. Wins in May are usually not vital, Scott Miller says, but this one just might be.
05/12/2012 16:18 Angels withstand another Hamilton homer to beat Rangers
Kendrys Morales had a pinch-hit, tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday.
Scott Downs signed a three-year, $15 million deal with the Angels last offseason and proved to be a valuable arm out of the bullpen once again. The left-hander posted a career-low 1.34 ERA in 60 appearances with a 6-3 record. He also went 1 for 4 in save chances but was mainly used as a middle reliever. While his 2.17 ERA over the last five seasons makes him an attractive option in Fantasy, his strikeouts and lack of save chances hinders his value. Plan on leaving Downs for AL-only formats and those leagues that use middle men on Draft Day. (Updated 1/11/12)
