| Ryan Vogelsong placed on DL |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/21/13) The Giants made it official Tuesday by placing starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong (hand) on the 15-day disabled list. Vogelsong is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after needing surgery because of two fractured bones and a dislocated joint in the pinkie finger of his right hand.

| Ryan Vogelsong out 4-6 weeks after surgery |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/21/13) The Giants have announced starter Ryan Vogelsong will undergo surgery Tuesday for a break in the pinkie knuckle and one other spot in his right hand, MLB.com reports.
Vogelsong, who ended up winning his start Monday to improve to 2-4 on the year, will miss 4-6 weeks following surgery.

| Ryan Vogelsong suffers fractured hand |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/21/13) Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong left Monday's start against the Nationals with a fractured right hand, MLB.com reports. Vogelsong was hit in the knuckles during an at-bat in the fifth inning.
Vogelsong, who will definitely miss some time and more than likely end up on the disabled list, was having his finest pitching performance of the season prior to the injury. The Giants were leading 6-0 at the time of this update and Vogelsong is on track to earn the win and improve to 2-4.
His next start is scheduled for Sunday against Colorado, but that is unlikely to happen.

| Ryan Vogelsong injured in best outing |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/21/13) Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong was forced out of his finest game of the season Monday against the Nationals, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Vogelsong was hit by a pitch on the knuckles of his right hand during the middle of a swing in the fifth inning. He appeared to be in pain and was checked on by trainers before exiting the game.
The starter had allowed just three hits and a walk over five scoreless innings and held a 5-0 lead. He had two strikeouts and his ERA is down to 7.19 after entering with an 8.06.
Vogelsong had lost his last three decisions and had not won since April 11 in Chicago. He was on the verge of the victory when he was removed. His next start is scheduled for Sunday against Colorado, but that is unlikely to happen.

| Giants giving Ryan Vogelsong 'longer leash' |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (5/16/13) Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reports Thursday that starter Ryan Vogelsong will make his next scheduled start Monday against the Nationals.
Vogelsong endured his shortest outing since 2004 on Wednesday at Toronto. He is 0-3 with a whopping 11.81 ERA in his last four starts and has not won a decision since April 11.
"This guy has done a lot," Bochy said. "He's earned some things, including a longer leash."
Vogelsong shelled eight runs over 2 2/3 innings of work his previous meeting against the Nationals in 2012.

| Ryan Vogelsong's journey from baseball oblivion to a spot on the National League All-Star roster was a great story in 2011, but after more than a decade of Fantasy irrelevance, could Vogelsong provide an encore? It turns out he could and he did. Though Vogelsong's ERA rose from 2.71 to 3.37, he did plenty to keep the trust of Fantasy owners last season, as he improved in wins, strikeouts and WHIP. As in his first season with the Giants, Vogelsong got an assist from AT&T Park. At home, he compiled a 2.86 ERA while putting up a far less impressive 3.87 mark on the road. Vogelsong was far better at preventing hits on balls in play and stranding baserunners at AT&T Park, but then again, there's no particular reason why Vogelsong -- or any pitcher -- would do those things better at one venue than at another. Looking at Vogelsong's overall body of work from the last two years, he has decent command, limits the long ball and has stranded a lot of runners. While he would be a safer bet if he were a bona fide strikeout pitcher, Vogelsong has shown that he can be trusted with a pick in the middle rounds of standard mixed league drafts.
