| Ryan Vogelsong to have hand re-examined Tuesday |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (6/17/13) Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong will have his pitching hand re-examined Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.
"Hopefully there's some pins coming out tomorrow," Vogelsong said Monday. "That's the plan, but obviously I don't know for sure until I get some X-rays tomorrow and see how things are healing. It's good news, but I'm a little worried about getting pins pulled out of my hand. It'll be a good thing. I'll get over it. I should be able to start moving it around a little bit more.
Vogelsong has been out since May 20 with a fractured pinkie.

| Ryan Vogelsong to have two pins removed |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (6/15/13) Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong, on the disabled list with a fractured pinkie, is expected to have two of the five pins holding his finger together removed Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
"I'm hoping the other ones aren't far off," Vogelsong said.
Vogelsong has been sidelined since May 20 when he was hit by a pitch from the Nationals' Craig Stammen. He is expected to return in late-July or August.

| Ryan Vogelsong moved to 60-disabled list |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (6/8/13) The Giants transferred pitcher Ryan Vogelsong to the 60-day disabled list Saturday, to make room for the activation of Tony Abreu.
Vogelsong is expected to be out until at least the end of July due to a fractured hand.

| Giants find silver lining in Ryan Vogelsong's injury |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/24/13) Giants starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong threw 24 2/3 innings in the postseason last year and then had a quick turnaround this season thanks to the World Baseball Classic. That heavy workload has led some to consider that Vogelsong was not at full strength even before he was placed on the disabled list with a hand injury.
As pitching coach Dave Righetti told the San Jose Mercury News, shutting Vogelsong down might be a blessing in disguise, after he struggled to a 7.19 ERA in his first nine starts.
"It’s a hell of a way to get rest," Righetti joked. "We didn’t know if the WBC was going to hurt him or help him. But at his age, we also knew there weren’t a lot of opportunities for him to get that shot at doing that. It’s a hell of an honor for a guy who missed out on a lot in his career."
Righetti also said that it appeared as if Vogelsong was on the verge of turning things around, before suffering the injury that will require surgery. He also noted that the team has not decided who will take Vogelsong's place in the rotation.

| Ryan Vogelsong placed on DL |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/21/13) The Giants made it official Tuesday by placing starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong (hand) on the 15-day disabled list. Vogelsong is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after needing surgery because of two fractured bones and a dislocated joint in the pinkie finger of his right hand.

| Ryan Vogelsong's journey from baseball oblivion to a spot on the National League All-Star roster was a great story in 2011, but after more than a decade of Fantasy irrelevance, could Vogelsong provide an encore? It turns out he could and he did. Though Vogelsong's ERA rose from 2.71 to 3.37, he did plenty to keep the trust of Fantasy owners last season, as he improved in wins, strikeouts and WHIP. As in his first season with the Giants, Vogelsong got an assist from AT&T Park. At home, he compiled a 2.86 ERA while putting up a far less impressive 3.87 mark on the road. Vogelsong was far better at preventing hits on balls in play and stranding baserunners at AT&T Park, but then again, there's no particular reason why Vogelsong -- or any pitcher -- would do those things better at one venue than at another. Looking at Vogelsong's overall body of work from the last two years, he has decent command, limits the long ball and has stranded a lot of runners. While he would be a safer bet if he were a bona fide strikeout pitcher, Vogelsong has shown that he can be trusted with a pick in the middle rounds of standard mixed league drafts.
