Dodgers decline option on Garland: As expected, the Dodgers opted not to pick up their team option on SP Jon Garland for the 2012 season. Garland had arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder in July. He made only nine starts this year, going 1-5 with a 4.33 ERA. (Updated 10/04/2011)

It was a lost season for Garland, but he is likely to surface in some team's rotation in 2012. Even when healthy, Garland is a contact pitcher who has little value for owners in standard mixed leagues. He should be on the radar of owners in deeper mixed leagues and NL-only formats next spring.
