Preseason Outlook

If you follow the every-other-year pattern with Beckett, he is due to have an ERA over 4.00 and a suppressed wins total this season. Beckett has been better in each of the odd years since his breakthrough in 2005 and alternately disappointing the even years following. Some of that could be explained by injury woes, most notably his back. But, we like the fact Beckett didn't pitch all those extra games and innings in the postseason last year. He seemed to have a bit of an October hangover in 2008. He heads to spring training full-go and should regain his status as the clear ace of a strong and deep Red Sox rotation that includes fellow Fantasy aces Jon Lester and now John Lackey. Beckett will go off the board after top 10 starting pitchers on Draft Day, but it would surprise very few of us long-time fans of his that he puts together a full season that makes him a top-five scorer coming out of 2010.
