Fantasy Analysis
Furcal posted just 28 RBI in 87 games a year ago but has gotten off to a solid start this season and is on pace for a resurgent campaign. While he has gone just 5 for 26 (.192) in his last seven games, he is batting .352 on the year and should remain productive batting in front of a potent lineup in St. Louis. The 34-year-old has been an injury risk for much of the last four seasons but as long as he is active and hitting well, keep Furcal active in the majority of Fantasy formats. (Updated 05/20/2012).

05/20/2012 01:10 Kershaw tosses shutout against Cards
Clayton Kershaw outdueled Jake Westbrook with a six-hitter for his fourth career shutout, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers over the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 Saturday night.
Rafael Furcal had another injury-plagued campaign a year ago and posted some of the lowest numbers of his career. A broken thumb cost him time early in the year and a myriad of other injuries hindered him throughout the season. He batted .197 with one homer, 12 RBI and five stolen bases in 37 games for the Dodgers before being traded to the Cardinals at the deadline. Furcal was able to stay on the field more often with St. Louis and ended up hitting .255 with seven home runs and 16 RBI in 50 games down the stretch. He re-signed with the Cardinals in the offseason and is expected to be the starting shortstop on opening day. The 34-year-old has had a difficult time staying healthy three out of the last four seasons, but he showed toward the end of 2011 that he can still be productive with solid lineup protection. He will have that in St. Louis, despite the loss of Albert Pujols, so consider Furcal a low-end Fantasy shortstop in mixed leagues on Draft Day. (Updated 2/9/12)
