|Marlins, Rafael Furcal agree to one-year deal |

(12/5/13) The Marlins have agreed to a one-year deal with infielder Rafael Furcal, Fox Sports reports. If he passes his physcial, the team intends to use Furcal as its everyday second baseman.
Furcal played 31 games at second base during his rookie season in 2000, and his only other exposure at the position was four games in 2002 and one game ni 2004. He missed all of 2013 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in the spring.

(12/1/13) According to ESPN Deportes, at least six teams have expressed an interest in free agent shortstop Rafael Furcal. The Mets, Red Sox, Marlins, Nationals, Pirates and Rockies are among the clubs who have shown interest in the veteran infielder.
Furcal said he would consider a situation where he would play both shortstop and second base if it meant he could get more playing time.
He missed all of the 2013 season, as he underwent Tommy John surgery in March.

(11/25/13) The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the Pirates have expressed interest in free agent shortstop Rafael Furcal. They are reportedly one of eight teams looking into signing the 36-year-old, who missed all of 2013 due to Tommy John surgery.
Earlier reports indicated that the Mets were among the teams to have an interest in Furcal.

(11/6/13) In addition to outfielder Carlos Beltran, who was extended a qualifying offer, and starting pitcher Jake Westbrook, who had his mutual option declined, Cardinals relief pitcher Edward Mujica, shortstop Rafael Furcal and starting pitcher Chris Carpenter have filed for free agency.
Furcal, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, has already attracted interest from the Mets. Carpenter is expected to retire.

(11/5/13) The Mets have reached out to free-agent shortstop Rafael Furcal, according to the Star-Ledger.
Furcal missed all of 2013 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but should be ready to go next season. The 36-year-old would be a short-term option, but an upgrade for the Mets. The team has already expressed disappointment in Ruben Tejada, and could be looking for an upgrade. Furcal was reportedly able to do fielding drills during the Cardinals World Series run.
