| Randall Delgado shines in spot start |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (1:26 am ET) Diamondbacks starting pitcher Randall Delgado made a strong return to the rotation Tuesday against the Marlins, as he tossed seven strong innings in a no-decision.
Delgado had just one rough inning, allowing two runs in the fourth. He allowed four of his eight hits in that inning, but was able to get out of it with just the two runs, and that was all the Marlins would muster in a 3-2 loss. The Diamondbacks won the game on a walk-off home run.
Delgado allowed eight hits and no walks in seven innings of work, while striking out six batters. Despite the solid outing, Delgado may not be long for the rotation, as the team does not need a fifth starter until June 29, given the way their off-days stack up. It has not yet been decided whether Delgado will remain with the team at this point.

| Randall Delgado officially announced as Tuesday's starter |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (6/17/13) The Diamondbacks officially announced pitcher Randall Delgado will start Tuesday's game against the Marlins.
Delgado has made one appearance with the Diamondbacks this season, allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out three and walking none in two innings against the Cardinals on June 3. He is 2-5 with a 5.91 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 57:35 K:BB ratio in 64 innings over 13 starts with Triple-A Reno.

| Randall Delgado could start Tuesday against Marlins |
by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com (6/16/13) Diamondbacks minor league starter Randall Delgado is working himself into the conversation for a start Tuesday against Miami, the Arizona Republic reports.
The club demoted starter Tyler Skaggs earlier in the week and so the club will need a spot starter for Tuesday. Delgado would be on normal rest Tuesday and has allowed just three runs in his last 13 innings at Triple-A Reno. Delgado owns a 4.03 ERA in 24 MLB starts for his career, but he has spent the bulk of the season at Reno, where he has a 5.91 ERA in 13 starts.
However, he could get an opportunity Tuesday to show his recent improvement is real.

| Diamondbacks option Randall Delgado to Triple-A |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (6/3/13) The Diamondbacks announced after Monday's game against the Cardinals that pitcher Randall Delgado has been optioned to Triple-A Reno. The move clears a roster spot for Tuesday starter Tyler Skaggs.
Delgado allowed two earned runs on four hits and no walks in two innings Monday night while striking out three. It was his only appearance during his brief stint with the team since being called up Saturday.

| At times in 2012, Randall Delgado, who beat out Julio Teheran for the fifth starter role in spring training, looked like he was on the verge of meeting all the hype heaped on him when he was coming up through the minors. Twice he pitched a full eight innings, and he allowed three earned runs or fewer in 10 of his final 13 starts. Still, at age 22, he proved to be too erratic for a contending ballclub and was shipped to the minors in July. His biggest issue, as is often the case for young pitchers, was poor control. He didn't give up an especially high number of hits -- he just issued too many walks, which at times led to high pitch counts. Unlike his first stint with the Braves in 2011, he did produce a strikeout rate befitting of his talents, which shows he's able to fool major-league hitters. Still, the Braves decided to make him someone else's project this offseason, shipping him to Arizona in the Justin Upton deal. Because he'll have to overcome both Patrick Corbin and Tyler Skaggs for a rotation spot, he isn't worth drafting outside of NL-only leagues. (Updated 1/24/13) |
