Command issues plague Dwyer: Royals SP prospect Chris Dwyer continues to have his struggles at Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Dwyer got lit up in his first June start, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on four hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings (14.54 ERA). This coming after he posted a 4.19 ERA in April and a 7.66 ERA in May. Dwyer is 1-4 with a 6.89 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 10 starts this season. He has 43 strikeouts and 30 walks in 48 1/3 innings. Fantasy Analysis
Dwyer walked all of 43 batters in 102 innings in his first full pro season in 2010, so these command issues are new in 2011. Still, it is worth pointing out that Aaron Crow struggled at Northwest Arkansas last season and is now one of the AL's best relievers. But he did go from a starter to a reliever, which might end up being Dwyer's path if he can't figure out how to get out high-minor hitters. For now, he is still one of the Royals' top pitching prospects and a viable long-term Fantasy keeper. (Updated 06/09/2011).
