Reds rookie SP John Lamb remains winless

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(8/30/15) John Lamb had the best start of his brief MLB career, but it wasn't enough to put a "1" in the win column as the Reds rookie lost to the Brewers on Sunday.

Lamb went six innings, allowing five hits while striking out eight and walking noe. But a two-run homer to Ryan Braun in the first inning would prove to be his biggest mistake.

Lamb (0-3) has seen his ERA drop in his four MLB starts from 7.50 to 5.24, suggesting he is growing more comfortable as a starter at the highest level.

Reds SP John Lamb takes loss against Dodgers on Tuesday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(8/25/15) Reds rookie starter John Lamb was decent in his outing against the Dodgers on Tuesday. The young left-hander allowed three runs on five hits over five innings of work. He walked three and struck out six, throwing 68 of his 108 pitches for strikes. The Reds were defeated 5-1.

Lamb (0-2, 6.06 ERA) gave up a run in the first inning. But the big blast came in the third, when Justin Turner touched him for a two-run home run. Overall, Lamb did a good job of keeping the Reds in the game, but they were unable to capitalize on their chances in this one.

Reds, John Lamb unable to make early lead stand up in loss Thursday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(8/20/15) Making his second career start, Reds left-hander John Lamb was decent against the Diamondbacks on Thursday. Going up against the league's top offense, Lamb allowed three runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter.

Given an early 4-0 lead, Lamb cruised through the first four innings, blanking the D-Backs on the way. But he got in to trouble in the fifth when he allowed two runs, including a Chris Owings solo home run. He allowed another run to score in the sixth before being lifted from the game.

The Reds' bullpen wasn't able to hold the lead, as the Diamondbacks rallied for the 5-4 victory, leaving Lamb with a no-decision.

Lamb has now allowed eight runs over 11 1/3 innings over his first two starts. He does own a 15:2 K:BB ratio, however.

Reds' John Lamb takes loss in MLB debut

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(8/15/15) Reds pitcher John Lamb made his MLB debut against the Dodgers on Friday.

Lamb took a loss, allowing five runs on eight hits over six innings. He walked two, struck out seven and surrendered a home run.

"I attacked it with Brayan [Pena, the catcher] and I just happened to get beat there. It is what it is," Lamb said, per MLB.com. "I know I made a few other mistakes there, but generally I just went out there and told myself I was going to leave it all out there on the field and attack and challenge him. I thought I did a pretty good job of that, but obviously that home run hurt the overall outing."

Reds manager Bryan Price liked what he saw from the young left-hander, who is from nearby Laguna Hills.

"I thought he was extremely composed," Price said. "It's a difficult environment in which to pitch in for a debut back here at home in Dodger Stadium. I thought he handled it really well."

Reds' John Lamb expected to start, make MLB debut on Friday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(8/13/15) The Reds will call up rookie John Lamb to start Friday's game against the Dodgers, the team announced on Thursday. No official roster move has been made as of yet.

Lamb, who will be making his Major League debut, was acquired from the Royals in the Johnny Cueto deal last month. Pitching between the Royals' and Reds' Triple-A teams this year, Lamb is 10-2 with a 2.67 ERA. He owns a 117:36 K:BB ratio over 111 1/3 innings of work (20 starts).

Lamb was a fifth-round draft pick by the Royals in 2008. He is a former No. 1 prospect, but he had Tommy John surgery in 2011. But he has looked good so far in 2015.

"He’s just getting back on top of his game again for the first time this year as far as maintaining the quality of his velocity and his pitch quality and has become the type of pitcher that will regain the form he had in 2010," Reds manager Bryan Price said, per MLB.com. "We’re very excited. We’re getting a kid with his best years ahead of him. Really going to take a hard look at him as a piece in the rotation going forward."

David Holmberg will be moved to Saturday's start, while Anthony DeSclafani will go on Sunday.
