| Vance Worley bounces back with solid outing |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (12:29 am ET) Twins starter Vance Worley, who allowed five runs his last time out, turned in a solid performance but did not manage to factor into the decision Friday night against the Red Sox.
Worley, who made his ninth start of the season, surrendered a run-scoring single to David Ortiz in the opening frame for his only damage of the night. He was charged with an unearned run and six hits over six innings of work. He walked three and struck out one in a 3-2 defeat in extras.
Worley saw his ERA improve from 7.15 to 6.20 after Friday's performance. He is scheduled to make his next start Wednesday at Atlanta. He went 0-1 with a 6.52 ERA in two starts against the Braves last season.

| Vance Worley halts long winless skid |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (5/12/13) Twins pitcher Vance Worley (1-4) permitted five runs and 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings during Minnesota's 8-5 victory over Baltimore on Saturday night. Worley needed 111 pitches to complete his outing, but still earned his first win in 13 starts dating to Aug. 1, 2012.
He was tagged for three runs in the first inning before settling down and holding the Orioles to just a run over the following four innings. He tallied one strikeout and walked a batter.
"After that (first inning) I went out there and I wasn't thinking so much," he said. "I'm here for a reason. I got to the big leagues pitching and I don't need to think too much about what I need to do out there, just make my pitches."
Worley draws the Red Sox in his next projected start Friday. He allowed three runs in five innings during his previous outing against Boston this season.

| Twins can't hold Vance Worley's lead |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/6/13) Twins starter Vance Worley held his own against Clay Buchholz and the Red Sox in Boston Monday. In fact, he was in line to earn his first win and give Buchholz his first loss.
Neither happened as both pitchers settled for no-decisions after Boston tied the score 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Worley had an inherited runner score in the sixth inning to complete his stat line as he allowed three runs on nine hits and no walks over five innings. He struck out three and allowed a solo homer to Shane Victorino in the fourth.
Worley (0-4) has not been as bad as his 6.95 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and record might suggest. But he's struck out just 20 over 33 2/3 innings and has not pitched consistently.
Worley is scheduled to start Saturday against Baltimore, though manager Ron Gardenhire could make changes to the rotation.

| Vance Worley allows three homers in defeat |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (4/30/13) Twins starting pitcher Vance Worley endured another rough outing Tuesday night against Detroit.
Worley allowed three home runs, including a two-run shot by Miguel Cabrera in the first and a two-run homer by Prince Fielder in the fifth. The right-hander was charged with six runs and 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings of a 6-1 loss. He struck out one and walked one in 76 pitches, 53 for strikes.
"Today was the best I've felt all season. I made good pitches. They just crushed them," Worley said. "I made the exact pitch that I wanted to Cabrera. I even went back and watched the video. That pitch is a popup, and he drove it out of the park the other way. There's nothing you can do about that."
Worley has allowed at least five runs in three of his six starts. and has a 7.22 ERA.
The 25-year-old will try to bounce back Monday night at Boston.

| Vance Worley drops another |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (4/25/13) Twins starting pitcher Vance Worley remained winless Thursday against the Rangers, despite twirling one of his best starts of the season.
He limited the Rangers to two runs in five innings of work on six hits and a pair of walks, however the Twins' offense was unable to get much going to support him. He struck out three in a 2-1 loss.
Worley is 0-3 in five starts, with a 6.38 ERA and 1.83 WHIP. He is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday against the Tigers in Detroit. He had a quality start when he faced the Tigers in his first start of the season.

| Be-spectacled wunderkind Vance Worley arrived on the scene in 2011 as an unheralded also-ran in a stacked Phillies rotation. He finished the year third in Rookie of the Year voting. In 2012, Worley rode the momentum to a 1.97 ERA by the end of April, then succumbed to elbow problems. While he avoided Tommy John surgery, Worley did pitch the majority of 2012 with bone spurs. The team shut him down at the end of August and Worley underwent surgery to remove a loose body and the bone spur in September. Worley, traded to the Twins for Ben Revere in December, refused to blame the bone chips for his poor performance, which included at 5.33 ERA in the second half, but it seems obvious that -- even if the condition didn't bother him -- it still affected his location. Worley is expected to be ready for the start of the season and, assuming the elbow issues are behind him, should be good for numbers closer to his 2011 line (3.01 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) than his 2012 one (4.20 ERA, 1.51 WHIP). Adjust him a little for the move to the AL as well as his likely bump up in the rotation -- meaning he will oppose a better pitcher on the other team, which could knock a win or two off his total -- but Worley makes for a nice late-round flyer in most formats.
