Rangers recall OF Michael Choice; RP Alex Claudio optioned
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(6/24/15) The Rangers have recalled outfielder Michael Choice from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. Choice has spent the entire season playing for Triple-A, slashing .242/.299/.404 with seven home runs and 33 RBI through 61 games.
Choice spent significant time with the Rangers in 2014, hitting just .182 with nine longballs over 86 games.
To clear room on the roster, reliever Alex Claudio was sent back down to Round Rock.
Rangers hoping for LF Michael Choice to step up
|(3/12/15) Rangers left fielder Michael Choice will get the start on Friday, but the team has yet to say that he'll remain the starter going into the season.
The Rangers are hoping that Choice will step up and seize the starting spot in left field. The 25-year-old is cognizant of the fact that he must earn the right to start for the club.
"[Banister] was saying it without saying it," Choice said. "I know when I step in that box what is at stake. There hasn't been much in the way of results, but I feel good and my swing is where I want it to be."
Choice is in a new situation in that he is used to seeing the field everyday.
"Having been an everyday player, I had never been in that situation before," Choice said. "Once I got in that position, it started snowballing and I couldn't stop the snow ball."
It isn't clear if Choice will win the position, but if he has another big Spring Training he could win the job in left field.
Michael Choice's season ends with hamstring injury
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(9/16/14) Rangers outfielder Michael Choice's season is over, the team announced Tuesday, as a result of a strained left hamstring.
Choice will miss the final 13 games of the season as a result of an injury suffered Sunday. Choice hit .182/.250/.320 in 253 at-bats for the Rangers over 86 games.
|2014 summary: Michael Choice's confounding career continued in 2014 with his first chapter in the majors. OK, so he did get a look late in 2013 as well, but he had a shot at regular playing time last year with so many Rangers hitters succumbing to the injuries. He walked like he about like he did in the minors and even hit for the power he showed in the lower levels with nine home runs in 253 at-bats. But his .182 batting average casts serious doubts about his future in the majors.|
Playing time status: Choice missed the final two weeeks last year with a strained hamstring, which prevented him from redeeming himself down the stretch. It also allowed another up-and-coming outfielder, Ryan Rua, to make his presence known. The two of them, along with Jake Smolinski and Ryan Ludwick, were competing for the starting left field job this spring, but Choice was eliminated pretty early.
2015 outlook: Because he's a potential high on-base/power guy, Choice should still be on your radar in Fantasy, but it's clear his stock has fallen even now that he's in the majors. At age 25, he could still turn this ship around, but with no job to call his own, he's an AL-only sleeper at best.
