|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(8/30/15) As expected, the Reds have demoted starter David Holmberg to Triple-A Louisville and brought up Michael Lorenzen, who will pitch Monday against the Cubs, per MLB.com.
Holmberg struggled mightily after three strong outings with Cincinnati. He allowed 18 runs on 23 hits over his last 10 2/3 innings.
Lorenzen compiled a 3-8 record and 5.46 ERA in his previous stint with the Reds, but has performed much better recently in the minors.
Michael Lorenzen could replace David Holmberg in Reds rotation
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(8/27/15) The struggles of Reds starter David Holmberg are likely to benefit Michael Lorenzen, who could assume his place in the rotation as early as Monday against the Cubs, according to MLB.com.
Lorenzen has been tearing it up at Triple-A Louisville. He is 2-1 with a 1.13 ERA in 24 innings over his last three starts. His last effort was a one-hitter over eight innings.
Holmberg has been going in the opposite direction with a 15.19 ERA over his past three outings. He was pounded for six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Dodgers in his last performance.
The only problem for Lorenzen is an innings limit that Bryan Price placed at 150-155 innings. He has thrown 133 2/3 combined with Cincinnati and Louisville this season.

Reds' David Holmberg gets roughed up Friday in loss to D-Backs
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(8/21/15) Reds rookie left-hander David Holmberg had another sub-par performance in his start against the Diamondbacks on Friday. Holmberg allowed five runs on 11 over five innings, en route to the 6-3 loss.
Holmberg (1-3, 6.57 ERA) got off to a bad start when he allowed a solo home run to A.J. Pollock in the first inning. He settled in over the next two innings, but fell apart in a four-run fourth inning, which included a solo bomb off the bat of Yasmany Tomas.
The young hurler has now posted two poor outings in a row, as he allowed seven runs over two innings in his previous start on Saturday. In his three starts prior, he had allowed a total of six earned runs.
