Delino DeShields begins extended spring training
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(4/30/14) Extended spring training has begun in Florida for Astros prospect Delino DeShields , who sustained a sinus fracture with Double-A Corpus Christi when he was hit in the face by a pitch on April 18.
The team is hopeful DeShields can return when it comes back from a road trip.
Delino DeShields could be back in 10 days

|(4/25/14) Astros outfielder Delino DeShields has made a quick recovery from a sinus fracture, and could be back in the Double-A Corpus Christi lineup within two weeks.
"DeShields is progressing, and he might be in lineup in the next 10 days," general manager Jeff Luhnow told MLB.com Friday. "I think that's a possibility. We need to be cautious any time someone gets hit in the head, so we're going through concussion protocol with him."
Delino DeShields to begin limited baseball activities
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(4/22/14) Astros infield prospect Delino DeShields was slated to begin limited baseball activities Tuesday after seeing a specialist Monday, the Houston Chronicle reports.
DeShields was hit in the face with a pitch last week, suffering a fractured cheekbone. "With a non displaced fracture, sometimes those things can heal up pretty quickly," general manager Jeff Luhnow said. "We’ll wait and see. He’s going to start some activities as tolerated."
DeShields may be able to expedite his return with the help of a protective mask, though the team isn't committed to going that route with the prospect.

DeShields was hit in the face with a 90 mph fastball Friday night. The fracture is non-displaced. He was one of the team's late cuts during camp.
2012 Fantasy outlooks: Houston Astros
To say the Houston Astros are rebuilding is an understatement, but they have more than a few surprises in the form of young talent. Michael Hurcomb breaks down the American League-bound franchise in his Fantasy team outlook.
|After swiping 101 bags about as quietly as a player can in 2012, Delino DeShields regressed to "only" 51 in 2013. OK, so he's not Billy Hamilton, but he still projects to steal a bunch of bases in the majors. And judging by his jump in batting average with his move to high Class A, he projects to do more than just that. The problem for DeShields is he may no longer be eligible at second base by the time he gets the call. He hasn't taken to the position defensively, and the Astros just locked up Jose Altuve long-term. A move to the outfield in the Arizona Fall League offers a glimpse into DeShields' future. Granted, an elite base-stealer is still plenty valuable in the outfield, but second base is still considered the weaker position. At age 21, DeShields remains a work in progress, so you shouldn't expect to see him this year. If his pedigree as the eighth overall pick in the 2010 draft allows him to develop power in the years ahead, he'll be quite the prize in long-term keeper leagues.
