Rangers CF Leonys Martin in, Delino DeShields out Tuesday
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(5/26/15) Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Indians. Martin has been in and out of the lineup over the last several games, but he will bat lead-off Tuesday.
Martin has been in a loose platoon with Delino DeShields, and Martin gets the start Tuesday against a right-hander. When he's played, Martin has hit well. Over his last eight games, he's batting an even .300 (6 for 20) with a home run and three doubles.
DeShields is on the bench to start Tuesday's game.
Rangers' Delino DeShields leading off Monday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(5/25/15) Rangers center fielder Delino DeShields is leading off in Monday's matchup with the Indians.
With left fielder Josh Hamilton making his return on Monday, DeShields could be in for a loss of playing time, but he's still in the lineup for Hamilton's debut, manning center field while leading off for the fourth straight game. The righty swinger is up against right-hander Shaun Marcum in the matchup.
The Rangers are underdogs (+125) in Cleveland on Monday, per VegasInsider.com.
Rangers don't plan on moving Delino DeShields to second base
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(5/24/15) Rangers outfielder Delino DeShields appears to be locked into his position, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
DeShields was rumored to be moving to the infield to play second base, but manager Jeff Banister said Sunday he will remain in the outfield and likely platoon in center with Leonys Martin.
"We have worked Delino at second base. He has progressively gotten better," Banister said. "I don't have an immediate plans to have Delino at second base. I’ve asked a lot of Delino, and he has responded to it. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves."
DeShields played second base in the minors for three seasons, but hasn't done so since 2013. He is hitting .271 with 10 RBI in 70 at-bats this season.
Rangers seeking ways to keep Delino DeShields in lineup
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(5/22/15) The return of Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton as early as Monday in Cleveland could result in changes for hot-hitting Delino DeShields.
He is making it quite difficult for that move to be a benching.
"I hope he continues to make it challenging," Jeff Banister told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "We'll do everything we can as long as the young man continues to produce and play. These things usually have a way of working themselves out."
DeShields could find himself at second base, where Rougned Odor struggled and Tommy Field and Adam Rosales have split time. DeShields has yet to play there this season, but the Rangers would likely want to keep him and his .279/.405/.393 slash line in the lineup.
Rangers flip Delino DeShilds, Shin-Soo Choo in Friday order
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(5/22/15) Emerging Rangers left fielder Delino DeShields continues to climb the lineup ladder. He is batting leadoff Friday night for the second time this season and first time since April 15.
He is flip-flopping with Shin-Soo Choo, who will bat second against the host Yankees. He has not held down that position since April 13.
DeShields has scored 13 runs in his last 14 games, during which time he has raised his batting average from .154 to .279. He is, however, on a 3-for-16 slide.
