| Lee getting hit hard at Double-A |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (7/23/12) Dodgers pitching prospect Zach Lee has been hit hard since being promoted from high Class A Rancho Cucamonga to Double-A Chattanooga. The right-handed hurler is 0-2 with a 9.45 ERA and .360 opponents' batting average in five starts for the Lookouts. He has allowed six or more runs in three of those starts. Lee also has 16 strikeouts to 12 walks in 20 innings.

| Though still regarded as one of the better pitching prospects in the game, Zach Lee's ceiling is in question after a disappointing 2012 in which he compiled a 4.39 ERA. A 4.55 mark over 12 starts in the California League is one thing, but a 4.25 mark over 13 starts at Double-A Chattanooga is quite another. Still, he's only 21. Even with a deep arsenal and good command of his pitches, he's certainly allowed to struggle against players more advanced than him. Following an offseason in which they signed Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jun Ryu, the Dodgers are loaded at starting pitcher, so they don't need to rush Lee any more than they have. Though he's looking more like a middle-of-the-rotation type at this stage of his development, he throws hard enough that he could still emerge as a potential ace. You wouldn't want to give up on him in long-term keeper leagues. (Updated 1/9/13) |
