(6/8/13) Tigers pitcher Jose Ortega was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after Saturday's win over the Indians, clearing a 25-man roster spot for Jose Alvarez, who is Sunday's projected starter.
Ortega went 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB ratio in 11 2/3 innings over 11 appearances with the Tigers. He returns to a 1-0 record, 0.00 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB ratio in 14 innings with Toledo.

(5/14/13) Tigers manager Jim Leyland told reporters that reliever Jose Ortega will not be available out of the bullpen Tuesday night against the Astros.
Ortega, who pitched two innings Monday against Houston and one-third of an inning Sunday against Cleveland, has not allowed a run since he was recalled from Triple-A. He has allowed two hits in 6 2/3 innings and has a 0.47 WHIP through his first five appearances.

(5/1/13) The Tigers have recalled reliever Jose Ortega from Triple-A Toledo Wednesday.
With Phil Coke on the disabled list with a groin injury, Ortega has been called up to take his place. Ortega, 24, pitched 2 2/3 innings with the major-league club last season. In Triple-A, he's thrown 14 innings without giving up a run this year. He's struck out 19 batters.

(3/19/13) The Detroit Tigers made a host of roster moves Tuesday, optioning pitchers Duane Below, Jose Ortega and catcher Bryan Holaday to Triple-A Toledo and optioning second baseman Hernan Perez to Double-A Erie. Detroit also reassigned outfielders Nick Castellanos and Tyler Collins, shortstop Argenis Diaz and pitcher Trevor Bell to its minor-league camp.

(2/16/13) Tigers reliever Jose Ortega drew rare praise from manager Jim Leyland during Saturday's bullpen session, according to MLB.com. "I know one thing: Of the guys I watched today, I would not have wanted to be hitting off of Ortega," Leyland said. "He's throwing great. Oh boy, he's got nasty stuff."
