by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/22/13) Mariners closer Tom Wilhelmsen pitched the eighth inning of a 7-1 game Wednesday against the Angels. It was not a save situation with the Mariners trailing.
Wilhelmsen walked a batter in an otherwise perfect inning. He threw 12 pitches, five for strikes, and his ERA 0.45. Wilhelmsen blew his first save Monday at Cleveland but has allowed one earned run over 20 innings with 15 Ks. He has 11 saves.

| Tom Wilhelmsen costs himself chance for 12th save |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/20/13) Mariners closer Tom Wilhelmsen suffered his first blown save Monday at Cleveland after the Indians tied the game at 7 in the ninth inning. Wilhelmsen was in line for his 12th save after first baseman Justin Smoak made a diving stop on a hard hit grounder by Carlos Santana with two outs, but Wilhelmsen could not field the throw at first base, allowing the tying run to score.
Wilhelmsen worked out of the jam, but the damage was done. He was charged with one unearned run on two hits in one inning. He struck out two.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (5/16/13) Mariners closer Tom Wilhelmsen recorded his 11th save of the season in his team's 3-2 win over the Yankees Thursday night. His scoreless inning was his 15th straight scoreless performance, a streak that has included 16 scoreless innings since the first week of the season.
Wilhelmsen owns a 0.50 ERA and has surrendered just seven hits and five walks in 18 innings while striking out 13 batters on the year.

| Tom Wilhelmsen pitches 14th straight scoreless outing |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (5/15/13) Mariners closer Tom Wilhelmsen was called upon to finish Wednesday's game in a non-save situation, and he responded by posting his 14th straight scoreless outing.
Since giving up an earned run on three hits and a walk in his second appearance of the year, Wilhelmsen has made 14 appearances, pitching 15 scoreless innings to deliver a 0.53 ERA this season. He's also a perfect 10 for 10 in save opportunities.

| Tim Wilhlemsen perfect again |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/11/13) Mariners closer Tom Wilhelmsen continued his dominance Friday, as he closed out his 10th game of the season in a 6-3 win over the Athletics.
Wilhelmsen tossed a perfect ninth and needed just 10 pitches to pick up three groundball outs. He lowered his ERA to 0.56, and he has yet to blow a save or allow a hit to a right-handed batter this season.
Prior to the game, he told MLB.com that the root of his success has been getting ahead of batters early. Wilhelmsen has retired the first batter he's faced in all 15 appearances.
"I'm getting strike one," he said. "You're going to be successful if you throw more strikes than balls, so that's what I'm trying to go after. Just fill up the strike zone."

| Tom Wilhelmsen was one of the bigger surprises in Fantasy last season as he came out of seemingly nowhere to become a reliable source of saves. After posting a 3.81 ERA in his first 25 appearances, he took over the closing duties from Brandon League in early June and never looked back. The right-hander would end up converting 29 of 34 save chances and struck out 87 in 79 1/3 innings pitched. With League now a Dodger, Wilhelmsen will close from Day 1 in 2013 and has the potential to be a solid option in Fantasy. He has averaged more than a strikeout per inning thus far in his career and can limit base runners with his 1.12 WHIP. With Seattle expected to be in a bunch of close games next season, owners in all Fantasy formats should not be hesitant to grab Wilhelmsen in the middle-to-late rounds on Draft Day (Updated 12/12/12) |
