Giavotella to share PT at 2B: The Kansas City Star reports Royals manager Ned Yost said Tuesday that Irving Falu and Johnny Giavotella will platoon at second base in the absence of Chris Getz, who was placed on the 15-day DL on Tuesday with a rib injury. Falu started Tuesday's game against the Yankees. (Updated 05/22/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Giavotella probably would have been considered the full-time second baseman if Falu wasn't hitting so well. Unfortunately, Falu is tearing the cover off the ball and playing his way into the lineup. Giavotella is batting .313 with three RBI in his last five games, but since he isn't playing every day yet, then he is more of an AL-only Fantasy option. (Updated 05/22/2012).

05/07/2012 14:17 Reality Check: Time to stockpile starters
Teams are doing some strange things with their pitching. Our Scott White comes to grips with the Chris Sale decision and offers seven starters under 50 percent owned who deserve to be rostered.
The Royals called Johnny Giavotella up to the majors on Aug. 5 and played him virtually every day from that point forward. Unfortunately, he didn't exactly excel with his opportunity, hitting .247 with a pathetic .273 on-base percentage. But the Royals won't be so quick to give up on the 24-year-old, and if you saw his minor-league numbers, you'd understand why. He hit .338 at Triple-A Omaha prior to his call-up last year and .322 at Double-A Northwest Arkansas the year before. And walks were never in short supply for him, which means whatever went wrong with his batting eye will likely go away as he gains experience. We may have already seen him begin to settle in. He hit .375 (12 for 32) with a .957 OPS over his final eight games. Still, as long as Giavotella's leash may be, it's not infinite. He doesn't project as a home run hitter or high-end base-stealer, so the prospect-laden Royals don't need him to work out. Giavotella will begin the 2012 season at Triple-A, so consider him primarily an option to stash in seasonal AL-only Fantasy formats. (Updated 3/25/12)
