Blue Jays add Jeff Francis, option Colt Hynes
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(4/19/15) The Blue Jays selected the contract of pitcher Jeff Francis Sunday while optioning pitcher Colt Hynes to Triple-A Buffalo.
A 10-year major-league veteran, Francis tossed five shutout innings in his only start with Triple-A Buffalo, striking out five while allowing two hits and two walks. Hynes gave up two hits without recording an out Saturday and departs with a 6.00 ERA and 4:2 K:BB ratio in three innings.
Blue Jays not rushing to return to seven-man bullpen
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(4/14/15) Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told reporters he would like to take a longer look at his relievers before returning to a seven-man bullpen. With Miguel Castro, Brett Cecil, Roberto Osuna, Aaron Loup and Marco Estrada likely safe, Todd Redmond, Liam Hendriks and Colt Hynes appear to be on the bubble, per MLB.com.
"Usually this time of the year, early on, you don't need to give guys days off, so you can play a little short," Gibbons said. "Being an American League team, there's not a whole lot going on anyways. We want to see the production out of the 'pen too, see how they pitch."
Liam Hendriks, Colt Hynes, Todd Redmond on Blue Jays' bullpen bubble

|(4/14/15) The Blue Jays are carrying an extra reliever and using a seven-man bullpen to start the season, allowing John Gibbons to postpone a cut.
"Usually this time of the year, early on, you don't need to give (position) guys days off, so you can play a little short," Gibbons said, per MLB.com. "Being an American League team, there's not a whole lot going on anyways. We want to see the production out of the 'pen too, see how they pitch."
The Jays will likely be able to get away with the extra arms until outfielder Michael Saunders is ready to return from the disabled list. At that point, Liam Hendriks, Colt Hynes and Todd Redmond will likely be battling for two bullpen spots.
Blue Jays' Colt Hynes has another strong outing against Rays
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(3/18/15) Blue Jays pitcher Colt Hynes continued his strong spring by striking out one of the two batters he faced during Wednesday's 9-3 loss to the Rays.
Hynes relieved Mark Buherle in the fifth inning and and got John Jason to strike out looking. He then got Evan Longoria to fly out to right field. In 4 2/3 innings this spring, Hynes has yet to give up a run.
With Hynes off to a good start, his chances of earning a spot in Toronto's bullpen continue to rise.
"It's exciting," Hynes said, via MLB.com. "It keeps things fresh. At times you get frustrated, but at the same time you don't wake up one day with a golden ticket and get the chance to play in the big leagues.
"Most of the time it's got to be earned, keep that in the forefront of your mind and just try to keep blinders on. Keep going toward the goal you're trying to achieve."
