| Rob Brantly returns to starting lineup |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (5/10/13) Marlins catcher Rob Brantly returned to the starting lineup Friday for the team's game against the Dodgers. He has been recovering from a cut on his right index finger that wasn't severe enough to require time on the disabled list.
Brantly has hit .222/.297/.309 in 91 plate appearances this season.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/8/13) Marlins catcher Rob Brantly sat for a second straight game and for the fourth time in five games Wednesday against the Padres because of a finger injury. Brantly is batting .294 (10 for 34) with four doubles and six RBI in his last nine games.

| Rob Brantly still dealing with cut on finger |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (5/7/13) The Marlins are expected to give catcher Rob Brantly the next couple of days off to allow his right index finger to heal, according to the Miami Herald.
Brantly, who was not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Padres, has missed three of his last four games with the injury. He has a .222/.297/.309 line with nine RBI in 81 at-bats.

| When the Marlins acquired Rob Brantly as part of their haul for sending Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante to the Tigers last July, it appeared the young catcher was probably a year or two away from making a contribution at the big league level. After floundering at Detroit's Triple-A affiliate in Toledo, Ohio, Brantly made a positive impression at Triple-A New Orleans, prompting the Marlins to call him up and hand him the bulk of the playing time behind the plate. He continued his hot-hitting ways after arriving in Miami, putting up a .290/.372/.460 slash line over 113 plate appearances. Brantly flashed the doubles power and solid contact skills he had shown in the minors, but he also showed a penchant for drawing walks that was at odds with his prior track record. As a left-handed batter, Brantly should get the bulk of the at-bats in a platoon with Jeff Mathis next season and if he can sustain the productivity he showed late last season over a full year, he will be worth owning in standard mixed leagues. However, it remains to be seen if he can maintain his patient approach at the plate, so owners should look to Brantly as more of an option for deeper mixed leagues and NL-only formats.
