Manny Banuelos just happy to be back on mound
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(3/8/14) Yankees left-hander Manny Banuelos was not sharp Saturday against the Astros, but his control was secondary to his mere presence on the mound. It was his first game since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2012.
His fastball topped out at 94 mph and, more importantly, he reported no pain after pitching two-thirds of an inning. Banuelos gave up three runs on two hits and a walk.
"I was happy for him to get out there," Joe Girardi told NJ.com. "He threw some strikes. It's been a long road back and he had a smile on his face. I think you appreciate it a lot more - when you lose something, you appreciate it a lot more when you come back. We have all the confidence in the world he's healthy."
Banuelos, who will turn 23 years old on Thursday, is trying to land a spot in the bullpen, but is more likely to be sent down.
