|Scooter Gennett targeting Sunday return |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(7/25/14) Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett remains hopeful of returning to the lineup in time for Sunday's series finale at home against the Mets, manager Ron Roenicke told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Friday. Gennett has missed three consecutive games because of a quad injury.
"I think that's probably what the plan is," Roenicke said. "He's going to go through everything today, make sure all phases are good, and if he comes out of that they'll let me know for the game today."

(7/22/14) Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett was removed from Tuesday's game after experiencing tightness in his right quad, the team announced.
Gennett went 0 for 2 at the plate before being removed. He also dealt with quad tightness over the weekend. Gennett has hit .305/.343/.481 with eight home runs, 34 RBI and six stolen bases in 295 at-bats.
|The favorable scouting reports on Scooter Gennett throughout his minor-league career finally began to make sense when he got a chance to play every day for an injured Rickie Weeks down the stretch in 2013. In 161 at-bats spanning 47 games, he hit .354 with five homers. A good batting average was always the expectation for him, but the power? That came as a surprise. Of course, as impressive as his base numbers were during that stretch, you'd think he'd have better than an .882 OPS to show for them, but he was short on doubles and stuck out four times as often as he walked -- both warning signs for a player who doesn't profile as even a 20-homer guy. That said, Gennett never really slowed down over the course of those seven weeks, but the sample size is still too small to draw any real conclusions. At age 23, he'll have the inside track on the starting second base job going into spring training, especially after Weeks bombed with a .209 batting average while healthy, and will probably hit enough to hold it down. But chances are he'll be more Omar Infante than Dustin Pedroia this time around. Draft Gennett late, if at all, in standard mixed leagues.
