Astros center fielder Jake Marisnick cracks first homer of 2015

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4/12/15) Astros center fielder Jake Marisnick went 2 for 5 at the plate in Houston's 6-4 win over the Rangers Sunday in 14 innings.

Marisnick found success early on, taking a 2-0 pitch from Colby Lewis to left center field for a two-run shot, driving in Marwin Gonzalez. He also added a single and a strikeout to his totals.

Marisnick is now hitting .400 with five RBI in 15 at-bats this season.

Astros' Jake Marisnick goes 3 for 3 in win over Rangers

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(4/10/15) Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick made the most of his at-bats, going 3 for 3 in Friday afternoon's 5-1 win over the Rangers.

Marisnick accounted for two RBI in the win. Marisnick hit an RBI double in the fifth and an RBI single in the seventh. These were Marisnick's first hits of the season as he entered Friday 0 for 4 for the season.

"To be able to get out there as an offense as a whole and give our pitchers some run support after the way they've been throwing, that felt pretty good," Marisnick said, via MLB.com

Jake Marisnick, Jonathan Villar, Will Harris crack Astros' roster

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/1/15) Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick, utility man Jonathan Villar and pitcher Will Harris have all been informed they will break camp with the big-league club, according to the Houston Chronicle.

It will be the first time Marisnick has cracked the Opening Day roster. The 24-year-old hit .306/.395/.500 this spring and is a candidate to play regularly at center field.

"It's going to feel like Christmas," Marisnick said.

Villar, 23, batted .209 during his second season in the majors in 2014. This spring, he slashed .256/.356/.436 over 39 at-bats.

"He's made some of the most spectacular plays of the spring, both in the outfield and in the infield," general manager Jeff Luhnow said of Villar. "It's a great story."

Harris, 30, will join Houston's bullpen this season after posting a 4.34 ERA last season with the Diamondbacks. He registered a 2.45 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB ratio over 11 innings this spring.

Astros' Springer OK with Marisnick starting in center field

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/30/15) Astros outfielder George Springer has started 15 times in right field this spring and has yet to play an inning in center field. It appears the Astros are going to name Jake Marisnick the starter in center field, and that's fine with Springer, according to the Houston Chronicle.

“I’m going to go out there and I’m going to play the only way I know how," Springer said of starting in right field. “He obviously is extremely skilled. He’s extremely fast. I understand his range, he understands mine, and I think this spring has been good just because he’s so aggressive. I understand that and I’ m just going to let him run. He’s there when I need him to be and it’s the same way for him.”

Still, in the long run, Springer sees himself as a center fielder.

“I think I consider myself a center fielder playing right field, but I think anybody who has some speed considers that,” Springer said. “I’ve obviously had more repetitions there and kind of more game experience now (this spring). So it’s kind of one of those things where I can kind of also slow myself down more."

Marisnick to work in CF, Rasmus at corner OF spots early in camp

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/17/15) Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday outfielder Jake Marisnick will play in center field at the outset of spring training, per MLB.com. He is considered one of the top candidates to start in center field for Houston.

Hinch also said Colby Rasmus, who is another candidate to start in center, will get work at both corner outfield spots this spring.
