Marisnick to work in CF, Rasmus at corner OF spots early in camp

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/17/15) Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday outfielder Jake Marisnick will play in center field at the outset of spring training, per MLB.com. He is considered one of the top candidates to start in center field for Houston.

Hinch also said Colby Rasmus, who is another candidate to start in center, will get work at both corner outfield spots this spring.

Astros' Jake Marisnick early favorite to start in left field

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(1/21/15) Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick appears to be the early leader to become the starting left fielder for Houston when the season begins, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow said Tuesday.

"I got to say, based on how Jake did at the end of last year, he’s going to be strong consideration for a starting spot," Luhnow said. "But you know, I think part of the theme of how we’re constructing the roster is there’s options at every position. … Based on what Jake did second half of last year with us, yeah, he deserves every opportunity to be a starting outfielder, and he’ll probably get (that opportunity)."

George Springer and newly signed Colby Rasmus are expected to start as well in the outfield, according to Luhnow. Marisnick is expected to compete with Robbie Grossman for left field.

Marisnick hit .249 in 221 at-bats in 2014 between Houston and the Marlins. He also added three home runs and 19 RBI.

Springer or Marisnick could start in center field for Astros

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/19/15) The trade of Dexter Fowler opens up a starting job in center field for the Astros. Jake Marisnick or George Springer will likely start in center field, with the other playing in right field. Alex Presley and Robbie Grossman could also be backup options in center field.

"It's something [manager] A.J. [Hinch] and the staff is going to have to work through," general manager Jeff Luhnow said, per MLB.com. "Marisnick is a natural center fielder, and it's possible he's our opening day center fielder. Who knows? I think it's nice having guys with versatility."

Jake Marisnick delivering over last 10 days

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/20/14) Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick has enjoyed a spike in production over the last 10 days, going 11 for 25 at the plate and stealing four bases in eight games.

Marisnick has boosted his OPS by 58 points during the hot streak, though his only extra-base hit over the stretch was a double in Friday's loss to the Mariners. He has hit .246/.283/.293 with one home run, 13 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 191 at-bats.

Jake Marisnick returns from back injury Tuesday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/19/14) Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick ended up missing just one game due to soreness in his lower back, as he is back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees.

Marisnick was not in Sunday's lineup, but was back starting at left field Tuesday. Marisnick is hitting .293/.311/.397 in 16 games since the Astros acquired him from the Marlins.
