He played first base in the opener -- a position he had never played before this season -- before assuming his usual spot at second for the nightcap. The 24-year-old was shipped back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after the game.

"My first start being at first base, I never thought that would happen," Joseph told the New York Post. "It was kind of overwhelming, but there's an opportunity and when you get called to do the job, you make your best effort."

Joseph, who went 0 for 2 with a walk and a strikeout in the opener as the starting first baseman, went 1 for 4 in the second game as the second baseman. Joseph's first hit was a double in the seventh inning and he came around to score later in the frame on Austin Romine's first career RBI. 

Joseph's first career hit came off Trevor Bauer of the Indians. 

Joseph, who started at first base in Game 1, is expected to be demoted back to the minors after Monday's doubleheader.

"I'm going to give him a chance to play some," manager Joe Girardi said, per MLB.com. "He has to be prepared to play three of the four [infield] positions. I'll give him a chance to play."
